Full Moon [24 Cancer 00]
January 13, 2025 (22:27 GMT)
The first Full Moon of 2025 feels powerful so if your emotions are in full flow, look to the moon. The Full Moon is exact on January 13th when the Moon is in its sign of rulership Cancer, one of the emotional water signs.
Traditionally, Full Moons are a time for celebration as the Full Moon is deemed an auspicious time for festivals. Emotions are heightened and the Full Moon lights up the night sky extending the hours outside of darkness. More time to play or work outside, less sleep.
In the lunar cycle, the Full Moon represents culmination, ripeness, fertility and the bright light of the Moon denotes clarity. It’s a powerful time to tap into the intuitive side of your nature as head and heart become one.
The Moon is strong in Cancer, the eternal Mother, a symbol of the divine feminine, protective and nurturing. Home becomes important, wanting to protect what you have and care for the ones you love. The Full Moon in Cancer is a reminder to honour the past and hold on to what’s of value in your life.
Cancer/Capricorn Axis
This Full Moon cuts across the Cancer/Capricorn axis of the zodiac which is about home (Cancer) & work (Capricorn). Therefore a big part of this Full Moon phase is considering how you balance the work/life axis.
Plus, as this Full Moon falls in the first month of the year, you may be looking ahead to what you want more of and less of in 2025. Where is the balance out and what are the values you’re choosing to bring into your life as the year continues?
A Full Moon reminds us of life’s polarities as the Sun and Moon directly oppose each other from opposite star signs. You can either be pulled in different directions or find a way to bring opposing factors together so they complement one another better.
The Mars Factor
During this Full Moon, you may be more aware of the opposing nature of the Sun and Moon and the potential conflict and drama which sometimes coincide with the Full Moon phase.
This is because, just after the Full Moon in the early hours of January 14th, red-hot Mars is conjunct the Moon at 26° Cancer. A Moon/Mars conjunction adds to the drama and intense emotions of this Full Moon.
Plus, three days later on January 16th, the Sun in Capricorn is directly opposite Mars retrograde in Cancer. This is significant because this Mars retrograde phase has been categorised by an unusual amount of oppositions.
Mars faced up to power planet Pluto in Capricorn on November 3, 2024 and Pluto in Aquarius on January 3rd when Mars was retrograde in fiery Leo.
As Mars rules passion and anger, you’re wise to tread carefully during this Full Moon week, especially if you’re up against opposition. When Mars is on go slow or in retreat, it’s not wise to go on the attack. Instead, rework your strategy and do whatever’s required to regain your strength.
The Uranus Factor
There’s another planet involved in the Full Moon picture as change agent Uranus makes a close trine aspect to the Sun on the same day as the Full Moon, January 13th.
The Sun is in Capricorn which leans towards the traditional and conventional, while Uranus has the opposite nature, i.e. alternative and unconventional.
This combination is awakening and enlightening as Uranus brings the Sun’s light to life. Listen out for synchronicities, tap into your intuitive nature and be spontaneous. Uranus is innovative and inventive, the spark that can get things moving.
This Full Moon phase could spring surprises and hopefully in a good way. Yes, action planet Mars may be retrograde, fiery and angry, but don’t let that stop you listening out for insights and taking advantage of change.
