Update! Wow – a full house. First time to get all predictions correct. The headlines this morning here in the UK were ‘Oscars winners mayhem’ which made me think of the Uranus factor and ‘Oscars nuclear meltdown’, a nod towards Oppenheimer doing so well but also a nod to Pluto in the astrology. And lovely Scorpio Ryan Gosling was a huge hit belting out ‘I am Ken‘ dressed in a Barbie-pink suit. Can’t wait to catch up on the highlights. I don’t stay up for the show as it’s sleep time here in the UK 🙂 Very happy with my predictions and using the craft of astrology to make them.
Pluto Aquarius
The Oscars astrology predictions have been an annual affair on this website since 2017. I started the predictions to see whether astrology could help predict the winners and, the clear answer is yes. You can search back on the website to look at the astrology and the predictions for the last seven years.
To make astrology predictions, it’s important to look at the chart for the start of the awards ceremony to see what the symbolism reveals (see chart above). This shows the main astrology to look out for.
This year the nominations came out on January 23rd, only two days after the slowest-moving planet Pluto moved into Aquarius, an epic shift. What was fascinating is that the two films with the most nominations both give a nod towards Pluto’s symbolism.
They are Poor Things, a modern take on Frankenstein and Oppenheimer about the nuclear bomb. If you want to know more about this astrologically, click here: Here Comes Pluto In Aquarius.
Pluto isn’t hugely evident in the Oscars’ chart (see above), although Pluto is in a close sextile aspect with Mercury in Aries, the communication planet in the first sign of the zodiac. Mercury in Aries is ‘motor-mouth’. Therefore, we can expect some political or powerful statements during the speeches. I have noted whether Pluto’s strong in the charts of the nominees, as this could be a significator for success.
Oscars’ Astrology
Let’s have a look at what else is important in this year’s astrology chart for the start of the Oscars.
This year, the awards ceremony is back in Pisces’ season where it belongs, the star sign linked to Hollywood glamour. Plus, the Sun rules the Leo Ascendant and is in its New Moon phase, a symbol of new beginnings. Both the Moon and Sun in Pisces are in relationship with Neptune, Pisces’ co-ruler, adding to the magical feel of the movie glamour.
What’s most notable about the chart is the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Taurus. Jupiter is on the Midheaven, the peak of the horoscope and the success point of the chart. Jupiter is always an important planet to note as it’s the best planet in astrology so you would expect Jupiter to be foreground in the charts of the nominees. It may be as simple as Sun Taurus doing well.
The Jupiter/Uranus theme is about freedom and liberation and Uranus is the planet of surprises. In predictions, Uranus can flag up the outsider or underdog doing well. So, let’s see if there are any major surprises on Oscar’s night. Will it be a night of new Oscar winners?
Here are my predictions for the top 5 categories plus Best Film. As always in astrology, you’re hoping to find times of birth for the nominees but that’s not always the case. The time of birth can help you predict more accurately and I’ve noted whether this information is available in each category.
Actress In A Supporting Role
- Emily Blunt (b. February 23, 1983) Sun Pisces – Oppenheimer
- Danielle Brooks (b. September 17, 1989) Sun Virgo – The Color Purple
- America Ferrera (b. April 18, 1984, 12:08am, Los Angeles, USA) Sun Aries – Barbie
- Jodie Foster (b. November 19, 1962, 8:14am, Los Angeles, USA) Sun Scorpio – Nyad
- Winner. Da’Vine Joy Randolph (b. May 21, 1986) Sun Taurus or Sun Gemini – The Holdovers
There are times of birth for two of the nominees, America Ferrera & Jodie Foster.
Danielle Brooks may have her Moon in Taurus but not a lot else to make her a serious contender from an astrological perspective.
Emily Blunt is a Sun Pisces and born on a Jupiter/Uranus conjunction, so she’s in tune with the Oscars’ astrology. The Moon at 29° Pisces is conjunct her Mars at 28° Pisces. I’m not sure she’s going to win but this would be a nod towards Oppenheimer doing well.
It would be great for America Ferrera to win after Ken was nominated for an Oscar and Barbie wasn’t! That was a controversy in itself.
America has a lot of synchronicities with the Oscar’s astrology. As we have a time of birth for her, we know she was born with Pluto on her Scorpio Midheaven. And, she’s a Sun Aries so the Mercury-Pluto theme is kicking in for her big time. I hope she makes an appearance.
The favourite for the Oscar is Da’Vine Joy Randolph and we don’t know whether she’s a Sun Taurus or a Sun Gemini, as she’s born on the cusp. However, she has her Mercury in Taurus and her natal Jupiter is at 18° Pisces close to where the New Moon falls on the day.
Astrologer’s Choice: I’m going for Da’Vine Joy Randolph and I’m guessing she’s a Sun Taurus.
Actor In A Supporting Role
- Sterling K Brown (b. April 5, 1976) Sun Aries – American Fiction
- Robert De Niro – (b. August 17, 1943, 3:00 am, Brooklyn, NY, USA) Sun Leo Killers of the Flower Moon
- Winner. Robert Downey Jr (b. April 4, 1965, 1:10 pm, Manhattan, NY, USA) Sun Aries – Oppenheimer
- Ryan Gosling (b. November 12, 1980, 2:34 pm, London, Ontario, Canada) Sun Scorpio – Barbie
- Mark Ruffalo (b. November 22, 1967, 7:33am, Kenosha, WI, USA) Sun Scorpio – Poor Things
We have four times of birth for the actors in a supporting role which is great. Even Sterling K Brown has his Jupiter Return year which is always a peak year of growth and expansion. His astrology ties in nicely with the Oscars’ astrology too. A good year for him.
Let’s talk about Ryan Gosling – Ken! His Ascendant is 19° Pisces where the New Moon falls at 20° Pisces and his Part of Fortune is 15° Taurus where Jupiter is right now. So, it’s likely that he’s going to come out of this well. Which isn’t easy, considering it’s Ken not Barbie who has the nomination. It looks promising for Ryan – best song maybe?
The other three actors are fantastic and it’s hard to decide between them. Robert de Niro is one of the all-time great actors and the New Moon falls relatively close to his Pisces Midheaven at 25° Pisces. And, he was born on a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in Leo, great for making big money through his career.
Robert Downey Jr is a Sun Aries. He has Uranus exactly conjunct his Moon at 19° Taurus in the 10th house so he could be a winner – no doubt about it. Plus, it’s his JupiterReturn year and his Saturn Return year. He’s never won an Oscar, but I’m thinking this could be the one.
I loved Mark Ruffalo in Poor Things. A Sun Scorpio with Uranus & Pluto on his Midheaven and Saturn currently trine Mercury, his career planet. So, he’s a strong contender.
Astrologer’s Choice: I think Robert Downey Jr will sneak it, with Mark Ruffalo a close second.
Actress In A Leading Role
- Annette Bening (b. May 29, 1958) Sun Gemini – Nyad
- Lily Gladstone (b. August 2, 1986) Sun Leo – Killers of the Flower Moon
- Sandra Huller (b. April 30, 1978) Sun Taurus – Anatomy of a Fall
- Carey Mulligan (b. May 28, 1985) Sun Gemini – Maestro
- Winner. Emma Stone (b. November 6, 1988, 12:50 am, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA) Sun Scorpio – Poor Things
There’s only one time of birth for this category, Emma Stone.
Annette Bening has her Mercury at 17° Taurus so she’s in the Taurus mix. Sandra Hueller has her Sun at 9° Taurus so her Sun is conjunct the Midheaven of the Oscar’s chart. Carey Mulligan has her Mercury at 25° Taurus but a little wide to be in the mix. No Taurus planets for Lily Gladstone but her Jupiter is at 22° Pisces close to where the New Moon falls.
Emma Stone was born on a tight Sun-Pluto conjunction in Scorpio – there’s the Pluto theme. Her Mars is at 0° Aries so Mercury’s picking that up at 1° Aries. Her Midheaven is 23° Taurus so both Jupiter and Uranus are heading for the peak of her horoscope. And, her Sun is at 14° Scorpio so she’s having an exact Jupiter opposition.
Astrologer’s Choice: Emma Stone has got enough going on to be the top choice. She was brilliant too.
Actor In A Leading Role
- Bradley Cooper (b. January 5, 1975, 5:09am, Philadelphia, PA, USA) Sun Capricorn – Maestro
- Colman Domingo (b. November 28, 1969) Sun Sagittarius – Rustin
- Paul Giamatti (b. June 6, 1967) Sun Gemini – The Holdovers
- Winner. Cillian Murphy (b. May 25, 1976) Sun Gemini – Oppenheimer
- Jeffrey Wright (b. December 7, 1965) Sun Sagittarius – American Fiction
There are no times of birth for this category, except for Bradley Cooper. And, it’s unusually devoid of peak astrology.
Paul Giamatti and Jeffery Wright probably have their Moon in Taurus, but we don’t know what degree without a time of birth. The only actor with great astrology is Cillian Murphy. It’s his Jupiter Return year and his Jupiter is at 14° Taurus. So, you would expect the favourite in this category to win.
Astrologer’s Choice: Cillian Murphy
Director
- Justine Triet (b. July 17, 1978) Sun Cancer – Anatomy of a Fall
- Martin Scorsese (b. November 17, 1942, 12:24 am, Flushing, NY, USA) Sun Scorpio – Killers of the Flower Moon
- Winner. Christopher Nolan (b. July 30, 1970, 12:00 pm, London, UK) Sun Leo – Oppenheimer
- Yorgos Lanthimos (b. September 23, 1973) Sun Virgo or Sun Libra – Poor Things
- Jonathan Glazer (b. March 26, 1965) Sun Aries – The Zone of Interest
Justine Triet is the only female director and I loved her movie. She’s born on a Sun/Jupiter conjunction in Cancer.
No times of birth for Jonathan Glazer or Yorgos Lanthimos. Jonathan has his Jupiter Return year – Jupiter at 24° Taurus. We don’t know for sure whether Yorgos is a Sun Virgo or a Sun Libra. It depends what time he’s born, although we do know he’s born on a Sun-Pluto conjunction and he has Pluto trine his Sun right now. Plus, his Mars is at 9° Taurus conjunct the Midheaven of the Oscars’ chart. So, some nice astrology for him.
Martin Scorsese is a big cheese in the film industry and he’s the most nominated living director, having received 10 nominations for Best Director. Blimey! Impressive. His Midheaven is 20° Taurus so Uranus is on it – a surprise win? And his Moon is at 17° Pisces and picking up the New Moon.
Christopher Nolan is one of the favourites for this category but I’m wary of his 12pm time of birth and it’s not verified. He has his Saturn at 21° Taurus so Uranus is nearly there but Saturn’s not linked to his career. His career ruler is Venus at 20° Virgo which is closely sextile his Midheaven at 20° Cancer and Uranus is picking up both.
Astrologer’s Choice: It’s between Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan and Yorgos Lanthimos! Not straightforward. I’m going for Christopher Nolan if his time of birth is correct. Martin Scorsese could be the surprise win.
Best Picture
- American Fiction
- Anatomy of a Fall
- Barbie
- The Holdovers
- Killers of the Flower Moon
- Maestro
- Winner. Oppenheimer
- Past Lives
- Poor Things
- The Zone of Interest
This is always difficult to call. Oppenheimer and Poor Things have got to be up there being the most nominated movies and having the Pluto symbolism. I’ve actually seen 6 of the movies – Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Maestro, Past Lives and Poor Things. I loved them all apart from Maestro which I found difficult to engage with. It was too smarmy and Hollywood for my liking – sorry Bradley.
I’m guessing one of the ‘Pluto’ movies will win in the new era of Pluto in Aquarius. I’d like it to be Poor Things which was bonkers but fab, but I’m guessing it will be the epic Oppenheimer and I will get round to watching it as some point. Plus, you could say that the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Taurus is a symbolism of the big (Jupiter) bang (Uranus). As Hugh Grant said at the Baftas, ‘Oompa Loompa do-ba-dee-dong, most of these films were frankly too long’.
Astrologer’s Choice: Oppenheimer
