Pluto Returns To Capricorn: How Much Money?

Pluto re-enters Capricorn

June 11, 2023 (10:47 GMT+1)

On March 23, 2023, Pluto left earth sign Capricorn for the first time since 2008. When power-hungry Pluto moved into Capricorn back in 2008, the star sign representing big business, the establishment, banking and governments, this coincided with a financial crash.

Since then, one of the ways that Pluto in Capricorn has played out is in the rise of the ‘plutocrat’ and the emergence of the billionaires. Pluto is one of the planets linked to money but it’s often about hidden riches, money that’s made through greed and corruption.

Pluto Re-enters Capricorn

Pluto returns to Capricorn this week on June 11, 2023 where it will remain until January 21, 2024 before moving back into Aquarius. Pluto will then dip back into Capricorn from September 2 to November 19, 2024, but that’s the end of this major planetary transit.

You may be aware of this major shift playing out, especially if you have key planets/angles at 29° of the cardinal signs – Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn – or at of the fixed signs – Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius.

Wherever Pluto is moving back to in your horoscope, there may be unfinished business or another opportunity to excavate, declutter, detox, destroy, clear out, complete. Or, perhaps a challenging situation in your life isn’t over yet and there’s more to deal with.

What Pluto can be good for is self-transformation, being willing to look at the deep dark places, to face them head on, so they can be released and no longer have control over you.

How Much Money?

Pluto in Capricorn has tended to favour the 1%, the uber-wealthy and there are now more billionaires in the world than ever before.

Yet in reality, we’re talking about the 100 billion club with more people entering that category. And, apparently, Elon Musk is on track to become the first trillionaire in two years time. I’m guessing he might sneak that in before Pluto leaves Capricorn?!

It’s hard to know what to say about this except that it’s wrong that such huge amounts of wealth lie in the hands of a few people. Especially, if it means they get to buy more helicopters/yachts/rockets/homes, while there’s so much poverty in the world.

I guess it depends what they do with their billions moving forward or what they’re regulated to do. Let’s hope that Pluto’s move into Aquarius finds a way to bring more equality into our world. Pluto’s got 20 years in Aquarius to find a way. Although, Pluto needs to become less ‘power hungry’ in Capricorn first, as this transit isn’t yet complete.

Pluto’s Realm

Pluto was God of the Underworld in mythology. Small and mighty Pluto has been demoted from planet status by astronomers but is still a powerful influence in astrology.

The slowest-moving of the ten planets used in astrology, it can take up to two decades for Pluto to move through one star sign of the zodiac. A Pluto Return is approximately 248 years i.e. that’s how long it takes Pluto to make one journey around the whole zodiac.

When Pluto transits kick in, you are often on a journey into the underworld, where you may encounter the dark or unjust side of life. Pluto is the planet of extremes, linked to power and control, loss and transformation. Pluto can wipe out and raze to the ground and is a symbol of the phoenix who rises from the ashes.

Yet, many of us know there are hidden riches to be found in the dark places. We often emerge from tough periods in our lives stronger and wiser, knowing we can survive. This is Scorpio’s strength, Pluto’s star sign. At its best, Pluto encourages us to step into our power.

US Pluto Return

One country where Pluto has been powerful of late is the USA (see chart below). Every country has at least one birth chart, sometimes more as they become independent or major rebirths take place.

The chart below is the one that’s most often used for the US and you can see that Pluto was at 27 Capricorn 33 when the United States was founded in 1776. Therefore, 2022 was the USA’s Pluto Return. The exact dates were February 20, July 12 & December 28, 2022.

Back in 2021 when I wrote my overview of the year ahead in my popular 2022 Horoscopes ebook, I wrote the following about the US Pluto Return:

This is obviously massive for the world as the USA plays such a pivotal role in global events. Pluto’s in the 2nd house of the US chart ruling money, also values and self-worth, so this may involve a financial crash or a restructuring of the economy.

At its worst, Pluto in Capricorn has exposed the greed, the power and control and the corruption that’s rife in our world. Pluto may yet come along to expose the secrets and wrong-doings and purge the underworld, the dark chasm that divides our society.

Think back to last year, 2022 and February 20 was very close to the date when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Yes, this is taking place in Europe but the USA are by far the biggest provider of military aid to Ukraine and other aid on top. Plus, the war has impacted the global economy with unpredictable markets and rising food costs in many countries.

You could say that other events in 2022 were a signature of the US Pluto Return, e.g. the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022 ending the right to abortion in many US States, the FBI’s raid on Mar-A-Lago, Trump’s home in August 2022 and the subsequent court case.

And, I did note that Elon Musk bought Twitter on July 12, 2022, an exact hit of the Pluto Return. He did it in the name of “free speech”, but perhaps the truth is more hidden.

Chasing The American Dream Elsewhere

This is another side of Pluto that seems to have been playing out. It was never going to be obvious what the US Pluto Return was really about, as Pluto wore the helmet of invisibility in mythology and he deals with all that’s hidden in his underworld realm.

What we do know is that the wealth of the richest people in the world (mainly men) has increased exponentially behind the scenes. Many of them have made their money via technology and many are from the USA.

Yet, apparently there’s a mass exodus of the wealthy leaving the USA. There are different reasons given for this – political tensions, unpredictable money markets, rising crime rates, gun violence, social and racial issues.

A big one that keeps coming up is that the wealthy are migrating from the USA to future proof their wealth. You can buy citizenship with investment and the most popular countries of choice on the list are UAE (United Arab Emirates), Australia & New Zealand, Singapore and Israel.

Maybe this is the hidden theme of the US Pluto Return – the vast wealth that’s been created over recent years is being spent elsewhere. Many people are still chasing what the American Dream always stood for, but not necessarily in the USA.

Plus, some of those ideals of the American Dream seem to have become harder to realise in recent years, especially around democracy, freedom, liberty and equality.

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the US Pluto Return isn’t over yet. On October 11, 2023, Pluto turns direct at 27 Capricorn 54, very close to where Pluto was when the USA was born. Let’s see what happens later this year.

  1. Hi Sally,

thank you very much for your great article about Pluto. So exciting your observations on the US.

Obviously a new financial system is carried out by the patriots. Let´s hope for a more balanced and fair world.

Interesting for me, Man City yesterday won the Champions League with Pluto at 0,00 Aquarius. The club is subject of ongoing financial corruption.

    Kind regards,
    Patrick
