New Moon Leo: Go Higher

New Moon

NEW MOON [5 Leo 39]

– Thursday 28 July (18:55 GMT+1)

This week, there’s a New Moon in Leo, a symbol of new beginnings. The Sun shines bright in Leo, the star sign linked to royalty. The essence of Leo is to be at the heart of proceedings, the centre of attention, just like the Sun at the centre of the universe.

Leo, the big cat, thrives when it receives plenty of stroking, accolade and admiration. Leo is a creative star sign, so this is about your identity, your unique skills and talents, what makes you ‘you’.

Make your mark this week, be audacious, have fun, party like there’s no tomorrow. Do your thing, find your passion, follow your heart.

Let the Sun & Moon in Leo empower you to take centre stage and show off your skills and talents. Be wary of slipping into bossiness or arrogant behaviour but don’t miss out on this chance to perform.

Jupiter Joy

The closest planetary aspect to the New Moon is a positive trine aspect from Jupiter in Aries. The Sun represents vitality, heat and warmth and Jupiter expands what it touches.

This is one of the luckiest planetary combinations between the Sun and Jupiter, symbolising visionary plans, big goals, a search for meaning, and a connection with the divine. Look out for new opportunities coming your way and notice when and where you can say yes to life.

The Sun-Jupiter connection is about making the best out of any situation, looking on the bright side and spreading optimism. Fire signs are motivated, spontaneous and fun. The Sun-Jupiter trine aspect perfects on July 31st, three days after the New Moon.

Jupiter Retrograde

Big planet Jupiter turns retrograde only a few hours after the New Moon at 21:37 GMT+1 on July 28th. When one of the slower-moving planets switches direction, it adds intensity to the point in the zodiac where the planet turns.

Jupiter switches direction at 8° Aries 43. Jupiter is the planet of opportunity and growth, linked to foreign connections, higher education and the bigger picture in life.

Over the next few months, Jupiter will repeat its steps through the zodiac until it reaches 28° Pisces 48 on November 23rd, where it turns direct.

Jupiter leaves the first sign of the zodiac Aries on October 28th for a couple of months only. It’s as if Jupiter is going back into the last sign of the zodiac Pisces to complete what it started earlier this year.

Jupiter turns direct close to a New Moon once again on November 23rd, this time in Sagittarius, Jupiter’s sign of rulership. It’s as if Jupiter is urging you to sow seeds and say yes to new beginnings both times it switches direction.

Over the next few months, Jupiter retrograde is helpful for planning, working on your mindset, practising gratitude, shifting your perspective. It’s inner work that counts.

Also, it means you get two more bites of the cherry if you have key planets/angles between 28° Pisces & 8° Aries. If you have planets/angles at the end or start of the zodiac, Jupiter’s going back over them two more times.

The retrograde or middle Jupiter conjunction often delivers the goods. My publishing contract with Hodder & Stoughton came in on Jupiter’s conjunction to my natal Mercury (writing), when it was retrograde. It happened almost to the day as Jupiter returned to 16 Libra. Whatever begins under a Jupiter transit promises success.

This week’s fire sign astrology brings heat and many people are experiencing fires and intense heat around the world.

Yet, this combination is also promising for big picture thinking, vision work, taking a leap of faith, saying yes to life. It’s an ideal week to go higher.

What Does It Mean For You

Read your Sun sign and the star sign that’s five signs ahead of yours – it will be the same element to your Sun sign. This will tell you which areas of your life are under the cosmic spotlight.

For example, if you’re Leo, this is your New Moon but read Sagittarius too, because this is the area of life where you’re currently experiencing Jupiter’s influence.

  • Aries: love affairs, children, creativity, entertainment, luck
  • Taurus: home, family, your past, where you come from
  • Gemini: communication, education, community, siblings & neighbours
  • Cancer: personal money, possessions, values, resources, self-worth
  • Leo: personal goals, physical body, image & profile
  • Virgo: retreat, secrets, inner work, preparation
  • Libra: friends, groups, social networks, hopes & wishes
  • Scorpio: career, vocation, status & reputation, where you’re heading
  • Sagittarius: travel, exploration, higher education, knowledge, the bigger picture
  • Capricorn: joint finances & shared resources, sex, money, death & rebirth
  • Aquarius: relationships, one-to-one interactions, contracts & joint ventures
  • Pisces: work, lifestyle, health, service to others

Remember to make a wish when you first see the crescent moon in the sky a day or two after the exact date of the New Moon.

Happy New Moon!

I have the Sun in Taurus 27 degrees, Aries rising 27, Mars in Pisces 27, and 7th house in Libra at 27 degrees!

    1. The turning point of Jupiter in four months’ time is likely to be most significant for you as it turns at 28 Pisces. A good time to review things over during the next few months – get ready to capitalise on your preparation/work later this year.
