As 2023 begins, two important planets remain retrograde. Therefore, you’re wise to take your time moving into the new year and focus on the basics first.
Full Moon/Mercury Direct
In the first week of January, there’s a powerful Full Moon taking place cutting across the Cancer/Capricorn axis of the zodiac on the 6th.
The Moon is in Cancer, encouraging you to rest and retreat. While Capricorn rules your work and routine, your lifestyle and health and this is where your ruler the Sun is until the 20th.
Pay attention to the basics of life and work at getting fit and well. Think of your health holistically and listen to your mind, body and soul. Start with the simple things in life as this can help you deal with any sudden changes or disruption to your plans.
Also, during the Full Moon, the planet of spontaneity Uranus is active. The key dates are the 5th & 8th. Uranus is currently in Taurus at the peak of your horoscope ruling your career and vocation, your status and reputation.
Things could happen quickly on or around the Full Moon that leads you in a new direction or down a different path. Uranus favours freelance work over a regular job and freedom over conformity.
Whatever happens or whatever you’re ready to initiate in your life, ideally wait until the 18th before making a major move. This is the date when the planet of communication Mercury turns direct. Mercury’s been on go slow in earth sign Capricorn since December 29, 2022.
When Mercury switches direction, this is the planetary equivalent of a green light. Important news or information may to light and it’s a good time for second chances. Think about how this might apply to your life regarding your work or health. It’s an excellent date to speak up and make any decisions final.
Mars Direct
Mid-month could bring a significant turning point for a friend or your involvement within a group. This is because action planet Mars turns direct in Gemini and your friendship and group sector on the 12th.
Mars has been on go slow here since October 30, 2022. If you’ve been experiencing difficulties within your friendships, mid-January is the time to sort things out.
Mars retrograde can be a classic time for misunderstandings, especially in Gemini the star sign of communication. Some things that have been said or written may be regretted.
This would be a good time to make a clear decision about your personal involvement within a group. This may be related to politics, a club, society or organisation.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the end of your involvement within a group as Mars remains in Gemini until March 25th. Yet, there’s a sense that you’re back in control and you can steer things in the direction you choose.

Aquarius Themes
Another theme running throughout January is that people matter to you. This is because, from the 3rd to the 27th, the planet of love and relating Venus is in your opposite star sign Aquarius and your relationship sector. This is about your intimate one-to-one’s, also your business partnerships and joint ventures. It’s both personal and professional.
Your ruler the Sun joins Venus in Aquarius on the 20th and immediately there’s a New Moon here on the 21st. A New Moon is a symbol of new beginnings and one particular relationship in your life could be under the cosmic spotlight.
On the day after the New Moon, on the 22nd, there’s a Venus-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius, which has a ‘commit or quit’ theme. Plus, spontaneous Uranus turns direct in the heavens. Both factors are important because Saturn & Uranus are your partner planets, co-rulers of the star sign Aquarius.
They mean very different things. Saturn favours commitment, whereas Uranus loves freedom. Having both planets in action on the same date after a New Moon does suggest that you might be ready to close the door on one relationship or partnership to start over elsewhere.
It also indicates that you might be more willing to follow a career or future goal than be limited or restricted in your actions by another person.
Plus, lucky Jupiter is in action on the 4th and the 25th. Look out for people who can help you or support you on or around these dates. Be expansive in your dealings with other people and think big. When you’re around people who open up your life in a good way, you’re more ready to embrace adventure and new experiences.
