New Moon Taurus
We are heading towards the New Moon on May 16 which this month takes place in Taurus, one of the earth signs. In traditional astrology, the Moon is exalted in Taurus, i.e. the Moon is comfortable here. In Taurus, the Moon yearns for financial and emotional stability.
Earth sign Taurus is a safe harbour for the changeable Moon, a place it feels protected, safe and secure. Taurus rules food, produce, money, art and nature and the Moon in Taurus not only caters for basic needs but allows wiggle room for delicious treats and indulgences.
Yet, start with enjoying the basics on this New Moon – a morning cup of tea, your garden, walks in nature, your pets, hugs and affection.

This is a special New Moon because of other planets and asteroids involved. On May 14, there’s a cazimi conjunction between the Sun and communication planet Mercury at 23° Taurus. It takes place at 15:24 GMT+1.
A cazimi conjunction between the Sun & Mercury is a powerful time to choose for an important meeting, negotiation or conversation.
You have the Sun’s attention, the leader or boss. What will you ask as Mercury invites you to speak up, interact and communicate?
During the New Moon phase, Mercury remains close by at 28° Taurus. Write things down, speak your mind, express what you’re thinking.
Ceres – Goddess of Fertility
There’s another important factor at this New Moon in the shape of Ceres, an asteroid which is exactly conjunct the Sun and Moon during the New Moon phase at 25° Taurus. I don’t often write about asteroids but Ceres is interesting.
Ceres is the goddess of fertility and agriculture in mythology and Taurus is a lovely star sign for Ceres, abundant and linked to nature. Ceres in Taurus is nurturing and represents positive parenting and caring for others.
Therefore, consider who you have affection for or hold dear during this New Moon phase. Who or what do you want to protect?
Uranus – the Awakener
Uranus is the wild-card planet linked to change and awakening. It’s the planet linked to electricity, lightning strikes and technology. Uranus moved into air sign Gemini on April 26 and you may already have noticed significant changes in your own life. I signed up to two online astrology courses which is a rare occurrence.
Each star sign has 30 degrees. During this New Moon, the Sun & Moon are at 25° Taurus while Uranus is at 1° Gemini. It’s a wide dissociate conjunction, i.e. different star signs but Uranus remains active.
Therefore, you could choose this New Moon weekend to do something wild and crazy, break out of your comfort zone or alter your routine.
If you’re launching a project on this New Moon or setting intentions, be aware they could take off like a rocket as your ideas go viral and things move fast.
