SOLAR ECLIPSE [19 Aries 24]
London – April 8, 2024 (19:21 GMT+1)
New York – April 8, 2024 (14:21 GMT-4)
Sydney – April 9, 2024 (04:21 GMT+10)
Total Solar Eclipse
Eclipse season continues this week with a powerhouse solar eclipse in Aries, the first star sign. This eclipse is part of the Aries/Libra eclipse cycle which began in April 2023 and will complete in March 2025. On March 25th, there was a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Libra, the only lunar eclipse of this cycle.
Eclipses fall in pairs and this month, on April 8th, there’s a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries. This eclipse is likely to be the most powerful of the cycle, for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, this is because it’s a total solar eclipse when the Moon completely covers the surface of the Sun creating a blackout and loss of sunlight. Total solar eclipses happen approximately every 18 months and they are spectacular to witness. I travelled down to the south-west of England in 1999 to join the crowds of people gazing at this remarkable event.
This time, the solar eclipse will travel across North America starting on the west coast in Mexico. If you’re in the path of the eclipse, grab yourself a pair of eclipse glasses and go and witness this extraordinary sight.
Eclipse Lore
To understand eclipses, the language and symbolism of the eclipse can act as a guide. When the lights, the Sun and Moon, are eclipsed, you are effectively ‘in the dark’ and things become hidden or shadowy. Secrets can emerge as what’s unknown comes to light and a new landscape is revealed.
A New Moon is a symbol of new beginnings. A New Moon Solar Eclipse acts like a turbo-powered New Moon igniting you into action as you move into a new stage or phase in life. Yet, at any eclipse, one door may have to close before a new door can be opened.
This eclipse will be most powerful for you if you have key planets/angles at 19° Aries. During the last Aries/Libra eclipse cycle, there was a total solar eclipse at the same degree on April 8, 2005. It may be that events back then are reflecting what’s happening now.
Yet, wherever you find the star sign Aries in your horoscope, this is where you have a powerful beam of energy. Sometimes, Solar Eclipses coincide with accelerated growth when the wheel of fortune kicks in moving you in a new direction.
Traditionally, you’re wise to wait a few days after an eclipse before taking action. During this Solar Eclipse, it may be that you’re wise to wait even longer. This is because communication planet Mercury is retrograde in Aries and remains on go slow until April 25th.
Therefore, it could take a few weeks for events to play out. Or, perhaps to make sense of things. It may be that you need to become comfortable with not knowing or being uncertain, for a while at least. Trust in the timing of the astrology.
Chiron In Aries
Eclipses can swing both ways – they can coincide with miracles and synchronicities, also crisis and the unexpected. There’s real potential, however, for this eclipse to bring something new and remarkable into your life.
This is because there’s an incredible planetary alignment between the Sun, Moon and Chiron, the wounded healer. At the exact moment of the eclipse, Chiron is in a partile conjunction with the Sun and Moon. In other words, it’s at exactly the same degree and minute as the eclipse – 19°24′.
Chiron is an asteroid rather than a planet and was discovered in 1977. In mythology, Chiron was the wounded healer and is becoming more relevant as healing is foreground. The earth needs healing and many people are stepping forth as healers in our disjointed world.
Chiron’s orbit is approximately 50 years. Therefore, for women, the Chiron Return usually coincides with the menopause. For everyone, it’s a significant age to heal past wounds and let go of unwanted emotions.
In the planetary order, Chiron is found between Saturn (the old ways) and Uranus (the modern ways). This is why Chiron is considered an outsider, a maverick who has a foot in both worlds but is rarely comfortable in either. Chiron combines the wildness of the animal world with the civilisation of the human world.
Chiron is linked to teaching, wisdom and healing. Sometimes, it’s about healing a karmic wound from your family past or your ancestry. There’s a sense of atoning for past sins. Consider how you can share your wisdom and experience, especially with the younger generation.
Chiron is about the physical body and emotional wounds and Aries rules the head. ‘Heal thyself’ is a key signature of Chiron in Aries. It’s hard to heal others, if you’re not whole and healed yourself.
Whether you’re a teacher, a healer or undergoing a process of healing, Chiron can play a pivotal role. Don’t take any unnecessary risks on the Solar Eclipse and embrace healing, whatever that might mean for you. It will be interesting to see if themes of atonement play out in people’s lives, during this eclipse week.
Solar Eclipses – Power Points
Here are the dates and degrees of the current Aries/Libra eclipse cycle:
- Solar Eclipse [29 Aries 50] – April 20 2023
- Solar Eclipse [21 Libra 08] – October 14 2023
- Lunar Eclipse [5 Libra 07] – March 25 2024
- Solar Eclipse [19 Aries 24] – April 8 2024
- Solar Eclipse [10 Libra 04] – October 2 2024
- Solar Eclipse [9 Aries 00] – March 29 2025
What’s immediately noticeable is that nearly all the eclipses in this cycle are Solar or New Moon eclipses. Therefore, the theme of independence or finding yourself may ring true. Following your own path, whether in a relationship or not, could become a major theme. Also, fighting for your rights or the underdog.
Notice who comes into your life on or around this eclipse. Life isn’t meant to be lived entirely alone and it’s the people you meet and the connections you build that often determine the course of your life. Love and loss are experienced more deeply in relationship.
If you have planets or angles that are close to the eclipse degree – 19° Aries, more likely than not change is on the way. Or, at least an opportunity to reorient your compass as you move forward. Plus, this is a north node eclipse with the karmic point of destiny at 15° Aries, a powerful portal of energy moving you forward, perhaps at a fast rate.
The last eclipse cycles in Aries/ Libra were from April 2004 to March 2006, April 1986 to October 1987 and October 1967 to September 1969.
What Does It Mean For You
If you know your horoscope, it’s helpful to consider where the eclipse falls. Read both your Sun sign and your Ascendant sign if you know it:
- Aries: Self-oriented goals, image and profile, physical body
- Taurus: Retreat and inner work, caring for others, sacrifice
- Gemini: Friends, groups and social networks
- Cancer: Career and vocation, status and reputation, your future path
- Leo: Travel, education, beliefs, religion
- Virgo: Other peoples’ money and taboo issues
- Libra: Relationships, partnerships, contracts
- Scorpio: Work and service, lifestyle and health
- Sagittarius: Self-expression, creativity, children and love affairs
- Capricorn: Home and family, your past and legacy
- Aquarius: Communication, community, neighbours and siblings
- Pisces: Possessions, assets, values and self-worth
Great article Sally! The current astrology is massively aspecting my chart so I’ve been anticipating 2024 for a couple of years now. I’m a 9th house Pisces sun with transit saturn just having passed over it’s 10th degree. My progressed sun is 19 Aries conjunct my 19 Aries venus and 20 Aries mars in the 10th house. Work is going well, and there’s been some big and positive changes there in the past year, so maybe this eclipse is highlighting those changes? I’ve always been a perpetually single person though who’d like to settle down, but relationships have never been my strong point so maybe this eclipse might shake me out of that rut! I’ll keep you posted if anything interesting happens.
Sounds interesting – love all the 19° Aries degrees. Do report back 🙂
