There’s a theme of new beginnings when the lunar cycle starts over. This week, on October 10, there’s a New Moon in the star sign of relationships Libra. Here are some ideas on how to make the most of this important time, the start of a New Moon cycle.
1. Set your intentions for the month ahead. Write them down, say them out loud.
2. Make a wish on the crescent moon. The crescent Moon will appear in the night sky a couple of nights after the New Moon date. When you first catch a glimpse, make your wish as New Moon wishes can come true.
3. Meditate during the New Moon, a point of darkness and silence. Turn inwards and listen to the voice of your inner self and your deepest intuition.
4. Give love and ask for love. Libra is the star sign of relationships and favours relationships based on equality and fairness. Be open to love at the New Moon, forgive someone, practise kindness and ask for the same in return. Turn over a new page in a close relationship.
5. Find balance. Libra’s zodiac symbol is the scales and represents equilibrium and harmony. Life can feel like a constant balancing act, so decide what it is you need, to find balance within yourself. This will be personal to you whether you need more time alone or to be around other people – your choice.
6. Libra is the diplomat and mediator and rules with a kind heart. Be an advocate for peace and practise sharing love and kindness.
7. The New Moon in Libra isn’t only about romantic love or love on a personal level. It can represent your love for life or finding love beyond the self in a deeper connection to the universe. When you recognise love in everything, you experience more gratitude in your life. Love is a powerful force which unites people and spreads happiness.

Venus’ Power
There is a proviso, however, during this week’s New Moon. The ruler of the Moon in Libra is Venus – goddess, divine feminine, powerful warrior woman.
These aren’t always attributes given to Venus but it’s part of her archetype, especially when she’s in the star signs Scorpio & Aries, which are ruled by her nemesis Mars. Many ancient cultures honoured Venus’ strength and power, as well as her ability to harmonise.
Currently, Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, one of her most powerful retrograde phases as she dives deep into the underworld bringing corruption and sleaze to the surface.
This is often a time when Venus, as a symbol of women, seeks retribution or revenge for wrongdoings. We are hearing and seeing it in the news and there will be more to come. Venus is retrograde up until November 13.
Plus, on the day of the New Moon, October 10, there’s a powerful Venus-Mars square aspect, the lovers of the heavens in conflict. This is a classic ‘battle of the sexes’ combination as Venus rules women and Mars rules men.
It’s feisty and furious and may follow on from events last week on October 2 & 3 when Mercury, Mars and Pluto were clashing. These squares in Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius are continuing throughout October and will culminate during the Full Moon on October 26.
Whatever you’re angry about, this could be the ideal time to stand up for your rights, defend your honour, to say ‘enough’.
