Lunar Eclipse Virgo: Faith & Fear

LUNAR ECLIPSE [23 Virgo 57]

March 14, 2025 (06:55 GMT)

This month’s Full Moon is special because it’s a Lunar Eclipse when the light of the Moon is eclipsed due to its relationship with the Sun and Earth. This eclipse takes place on March 14th or a day earlier if you live in the Americas.

During a Lunar Eclipse, the Sun and Moon are at opposite sides of the zodiac. A shadow is thrown during an eclipse. Once the shadow lifts, it brings what’s hidden to light or sheds a new perspective on a current situation.

Traditionally, you’re wise to wait a few days after an eclipse before taking action as new information may come to light. Eclipses can be dramatic and are often associated with the unexpected events in life, the things you didn’t see coming.

This week’s Lunar Eclipse mirrors the Lunar Eclipse which took place on September 18, 2024. Consider what may have come full circle in your life since then.

This is a total Lunar Eclipse and best visibility will be across the Americas on Thursday night. Here in the UK, it will be daylight but it may still be worth going out for an early morning walk to see whether the Moon is still visible.

Eclipse Lore

In ancient times eclipses were viewed as a bad omen, although in modern times they are not so feared. Eclipses are power points of energy when spiritual awareness is heightened.

There are two main types of eclipses, a Solar or new moon eclipse when the light of the Sun is obscured and a Lunar or full moon eclipse when the Moon’s light is hidden. Eclipses present you with an opportunity to sweep out the old to prepare the space for something fresh and new to emerge.

To understand eclipses, the language and symbolism of the eclipse can act as a guide. When the lights, the Sun and Moon, are eclipsed, you are in the dark and events are hidden and shadowy. Secrets emerge and what’s unknown comes to light.

As an eclipse involves three bodies, the Sun, Moon and Earth, this may represent a ‘triangle’ situation in your life where one person loses out allowing another person to take advantage. At an eclipse, one door may have to shut before a new door can open.

Eclipses symbolise a time when the pendulum of fate can swing dramatically and that may feel both exhilarating and scary. Sometimes, change happens close to the eclipse date. At other times, the influence of an eclipse can last until the next set of eclipses, six months later.

An eclipse has most impact when it falls within 2-3º of a planet or angle in your birth chart. Very often, an event close to the eclipse date sets the wheels of change in motion and the eclipse energy plays out over the next few weeks or months.

Eclipses take place in cycles that last for 18-24 months. What can happen is you get a run of eclipses triggering key points in your birth chart and your life shifts significantly within that period.

When you look back on the past, you invariably see that major turning points in your life, moments of destiny, coincide with important eclipse cycles.

Virgo/Pisces Axis

This eclipse cycle cuts across the Virgo/Pisces axis of the zodiac. If you have planets and angles in these star signs, this eclipse cycle will be most powerful for you. This eclipse cycle began in September 2024 and continues until February 2027.

It will be most powerful if you’re one of the mutable star signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces or if you have these star signs on the angles of your horoscope – the Ascendant/Descendant axis (personal/relationships), the MC/IC axis (career/family).

The Virgo-Pisces axis represents order and chaos. Virgo’s ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication which loves detail, facts and figures. Pisces is ruled by two planets, the biggest planet Jupiter and the boundless planet Neptune. This is the realm of dreams and fantasy, encouraging you to be in flow with life and lose yourself in wonder.

The Virgo-Pisces axis highlights themes of service, sacrifice and surrender. The star signs Virgo and Pisces tap you into the rituals of daily life through good health and prayer. Virgo is the god of small things while Pisces takes you out into the universe – the microcosm and the macrocosm.

These are not material or ambitious star signs. Instead, the Virgo-Pisces axis encourages you to be grateful for what you have and understand that less can be more. Sustenance and harvest are Virgo themes, one of the earth signs, and Pisces rules the sea and liquids, one of the water signs – food & wine.

In Virgo, you’re on dry land, sorting things out, taking care of your body, getting organised. Whereas in Pisces, you’re swimming in the sea, losing yourself, heading into the unknown and marvelling at the boundless nature of the universe.

The Virgo/Pisces axis is about faith and faith is in urgent need right now. However, faith alone may not be enough. Earth signs are practical and what’s needed most is a willingness to help and be of service to others. Kindness and caring are an integral part of this powerful opposition so practise what you preach.

A client told me a lovely quote this week which resonated for me around the Virgo/Pisces themes: ‘get off your cross, we need the wood‘. The reality and practicalities of life are the other side of the coin.

Planetary Patterns

At this powerful Lunar Eclipse, the Sun in Pisces sits between Saturn & Neptune. These two planets mirror the themes of Virgo and Pisces. Neptune is God of the sea and co-ruler of Pisces, a boundless, cosmic influence. While Saturn represents form, reality and the real world.

Fear is linked to Saturn and this is a time in our lives when many of us are feeling the pull between faith and fear.

Saturn is the closest of the two planets and Saturn can dim the light of the Sun. It’s a symbol of authority and leadership by rules and dogma and is a heavy influence during the eclipse phase.

With Neptune, the creative, imaginative, ‘lose yourself’ aspects of the Virgo-Pisces axis are emphasised. Spiritual awareness is heightened but ensure you have your anchor to keep you safe and in touch with reality.

Note that Mercury, the ruler of this Virgo eclipse is stationing and will turn retrograde the following day. This confuses the picture and it’s a time to feel your way forward carefully. The slowly-slowly theme continues until mid-April.

Plus, this Lunar Eclipse falls at 23° of the Virgo/Pisces axis. This is close to where both Mercury and Venus turn direct on April 7 (Mercury – 26° Pisces) and April 13 (Venus – 24° Pisces). Therefore, it may take some time for the events around this eclipse to play out or come to resolution.

The closest planetary aspect during the eclipse is to the innovator and awakener Uranus in earth sign Taurus. The Sun-Uranus sextile aspect falls only a few hours after the eclipse.

What takes place may help you realise that you’re part of the collective or a bigger pattern that’s playing out around you. What can you transform or conjure up during this powerful eclipse energy?

Sometimes, it feels as if things are falling apart when eclipses kick in. Yet, Uranus offers innovation and possibility. Ready or not, change is on the way. Therefore, try and ensure that you’re in step and in tune with what’s happening, even if it feels like breaking down to break through.
