Blue Moon Super Moon
This week’s Full Moon is a Blue Moon Super Moon. To put these terms into context, a Super Moon is one of the closest Full Moons to earth and looks spectacular in the night sky. A Blue Moon is the second Full Moon in a calendar month. There was a Full Moon in Aquarius on August 1st and this Full Moon falls in Pisces on August 31st.
It’s quite rare to have a Blue Moon, the last one took place in October 2020. The Moon won’t actually look blue but the name conjures up a sense of magic and mystery and this Full Moon is likely to be super emotional.
Full Moons are a time when emotions are heightened and water sign Pisces knows no bounds when it comes to the emotional realm. Plus, this is a particularly chaotic season with both Venus (love/relating) and Mercury (communication/transport) in retrograde.
To add to the chaos, technology planet Uranus turned retrograde on August 29th – here in the UK, air traffic control stopped working, mirroring the diversions taking place in the night sky.
If things are working out well in your life, you’ve probably got some lovely transits going on. If you’re in chaos, overwhelm or feeling super emotional, you’re experiencing the full majesty and power of this Pisces Full Moon, Blue Moon, Super Moon.
Virgo/Pisces Axis
The Virgo/Pisces axis is about work and service, healing and health, sacrifice and surrender. During this week’s Full Moon, the Moon at 7° Pisces sits opposite the Sun at 7° Virgo. The Full Moon will be most powerful for you, if you have planets or angles in your natal chart at the Full Moon degree.
This is the time in the month when the Moon is at its brightest. Emotions are heightened during the Full Moon phase and this is doubly emphasised during a Full Moon in the emotional water sign Pisces. It’s a time to feel your emotions fully, ready or not. It’s a positive period to let the tears flow and release what’s been pent up or blocked.
This is an ideal Full Moon phase for losing yourself in your imagination, exploring life beyond the everyday and delving deep into your dream world. Those sleepless moments in the middle of the night may be unusually creative as the magical light of the Moon shines down upon you.
Feminine intuition and magic powers are heightened at the time of the Full Moon. In many traditional and modern societies, the Full Moon remains a time of celebration and ceremony.
Opposing Energies
The dynamic of a Full Moon in astrology is an opposition and always presents a challenge on how you synthesize opposing energies or clashing wants and needs.
There’s invariably an element of conflict but with that comes the opportunity to find a way to work together and use complementary skills or interests for the unity of the whole.
Ideally, aim to flow between the opposing star signs of the Virgo-Pisces axis. In Virgo, you’re on dry land, sorting things out, taking care of your body, getting organised. Whereas in Pisces, you’re swimming in the sea, losing yourself, heading into the unknown and marvelling at the boundless nature of the universe.
Take some time out for you during this powerful Full Moon phase. Engage your logical left brain and intuitive right brain and encourage creativity and miracles to spring to life.
Full Moon & Saturn
The closest planet pulled into the Full Moon picture is Saturn at 3° Pisces. There’s a Moon-Saturn conjunction during the Full Moon. And, Saturn opposed the Sun in Virgo on August 27th. Saturn is known as the enemy of the lights as its two signs of rulership, Capricorn and Aquarius, are the opposite stars to the Moon and Sun’s signs of rulership, Cancer and Leo.
Saturn’s cold, whereas the Sun’s hot. They are opposing forces. Saturn is the ‘get real’ planet currently in the sign linked to fantasy, dreams and away-with-the-fairies imagination Pisces. It’s a mis-match, on some level at least.
This is because Saturn is the shaman, the planet of solitude and Pisces is a spiritual source. Yes, this may be a time of loss or hardship, a time when you have to deal with reality and the serious side of life.
Yet, this Full Moon is encouraging inner work and surrender or sacrifice to something greater, something beyond the ego. It’s another reason why this week’s Full Moon is spectacular and meaningful, encouraging you to lose yourself in it.
This is no ordinary Virgo season. That ‘back-to-school’ vibe, the new health routines, the sensible lifestyle and sense of efficiency may need to be deferred a while longer. The significant turning point comes in two weeks time when there’s a New Moon in Virgo on September 15th, the ideal time to make a fresh start.

So true for me. Technology issues, won’t bore you, vivid dreams especially about an ex but in a lovely way (would be good if it was true). Also feeling like I would like to have a go at something new and creative.
Landing within minutes of my natal retrograde Virgo Mercury in 5th. I’m almost never affected by the mercury retrogrades issues which astrologers talk about. Always been very deliberate when I do things, a trait I am unlearning to become more instinctive and accepting that, in the process, little screw ups will happen!
Full moon in a few hours’ time but I haven’t had any inklings of what’s to come from it, if anything …
I think you seem to fare better during the retrograde phases when you have that planet retrograde in your natal chart. Full Moon has been quite emotional and dramatic for some this week – it depends what it triggers in your natal chart. Sending best wishes.
