January 2025 Astrology
I hope you’ve enjoyed the festive season and you’re looking forward to 2025. As January begins, you’ll see the crescent Moon in the night sky, a symbol of new beginnings. Don’t forget to make a wish. This year, it feels like the right time to make some new intentions as a new year begins.
Retrograde Mars
Action planet Mars remains retrograde until February 24th. Mars is heading back into water sign Cancer on January 6th. Before it does so, there’s a Mars-Pluto opposition cutting across the Leo/Aquarius axis of the zodiac on January 3rd.
If you have planets or angles in early degrees of the fixed star signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, this opposition is powerful. Be wary of a conflict situation and don’t get involved in power games, especially if they could turn nasty or violent.
Use your knowledge of astrology to work with the planets rather than bang your head against a brick wall. Wherever Mars falls in your horoscope, i.e. where you find the star signs Leo & Cancer, this is where you’re wise to down tools, take a step back and rework your strategy.
Earth & Water
Mars is potentially throwing a spanner in the works this month. Otherwise, there’s a strong focus on the introvert elements, earth and water. The earth signs are Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn. The water signs are Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces. Plus, the karmic nodes move out of fire sign Aries & air sign Libra and into Virgo & Pisces on January 11th.
On January 3rd, the planet of love and relating Venus enters water sign Pisces, a star sign she loves. This combination favours peace and unconditional love. Venus remains in Pisces throughout January.
Then, on January 8th, the planet of communication Mercury enters earth sign Capricorn where it remains until January 28th. Mercury in Capricorn is steady and reliable and favours a slower pace. Take your time moving into 2025 and keep focused on what you want to achieve and why.
Aquarius – The Call of the New
The Sun is in earth sign Capricorn until January 19th. It then enters air sign Aquarius and is joined by talk planet Mercury in Aquarius on January 28th.
Each star sign in the zodiac is different to the star sign before. Capricorn favours planning, responsibility, hierarchies and the weight of history and tradition.
Whereas, Aquarius favours innovation, collaborative ventures and the lure of technology and future-oriented inventions. It’s time to be social and inclusive of others when the Sun enters Aquarius.
The other planet in Aquarius is power planet Pluto, where it will be for the next twenty years. In some countries, this is returning power to the people and it’s indicative of the rise of AI, Artificial Intelligence.
Since 2008, when Pluto was moving through Capricorn, there was a Sun/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn every year. This is the first year that the Sun/Pluto conjunction takes place in Aquarius on January 21st. It’s a pivotal conjunction as it falls at 1° Aquarius.
This is the day after the presidential Inauguration in the USA on January 20th. We’re entering into a new era in more ways than one.
Moon’s Phases
Full Moon Cancer – January 13
During the Full Moon, the light of the moon is at its peak, shining a light on your current situation. Traditionally, a Full Moon is the time to trust your intuition, make important decisions and bring matters to completion or culmination.
This is the start of the waning phase of the Moon cycle, an ideal time to release and let go of what’s no longer needed in your life.
This Full Moon cuts across the Cancer/Capricorn axis of the zodiac. Both earth signs favour tradition and are linked to home and family, work and vocation.
However, this Full Moon period is anything but stable as retrograde Mars sits next to the Moon in Cancer and live-wire Uranus is in a surprise trine aspect to the Sun in Capricorn on January 13th.
Anything goes during this Full Moon, a symbol of opposition. Notice who you’re up against and avoid getting involved in a family argument or office politics on January 16th.
New Moon Aquarius – January 29
A New Moon is a symbol of new beginnings and this month’s New Moon falls in Aquarius on January 29th. Traditionally, a New Moon is the time to launch a project, begin something new and start over.
This is the beginning of the waxing phase of the Moon cycle, an ideal time to set your intentions for the month ahead. Make a wish when you first catch sight of the crescent Moon, a couple of days after the New Moon date.
This month’s New Moon falls in air sign Aquarius and both the Sun and Moon are in a glorious trine aspect to the biggest and best planet Jupiter in Gemini. These planetary aspects are exact on January 29th & January 30th.
Good things can happen under this planetary combination. It’s an ideal New Moon to take a leap of faith and say yes to a new opportunity which comes your way. Trust your luck.
