Sun enters Aries – EQUINOX
March 20, 2025 (09:01 GMT)
The Sun enters the first sign of the zodiac Aries on March 20th. This is the Sun’s annual fresh start as it begins a new cycle of the zodiac. This is the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere and the Autumn Equinox in the southern hemisphere.
The Equinox is a major event in the astrological calendar because it’s the day when the Sun moves to 0° Aries and a new zodiac cycle begins. Even with all that’s shifting and changing, you may sense something new emerging and feel motivated to keep moving forward and put one foot in front of the other.
0° Aries is a pivotal point in the current astrology now, throughout 2025 and moving forward into 2026. It’s not only the Sun moving over this point but Mercury (communication), Venus (relating), Saturn (authority) & Neptune (salvation) all move back and forth between the end of the zodiac 29° Pisces and the beginning of the zodiac 0° Aries.
Therefore, this year it’s not a straightforward or linear progression as the Sun enters Aries. However, it’s worth keeping your gaze on the future and what next. This time of year is associated with new beginnings, making a fresh start, sowing seeds and making things happen. It’s a positive time of year to be proactive and the major themes are rebirth and renewal.
In some areas of life, you may be ready to leap into action, take the initiative and start something new. At the very least, rediscover your energy, joy and passion and focus on the power of individual action.
In honour of the Sun’s new zodiac cycle, here are some ways in which you can make the most of this pivotal point in the year.
1. Spring Into Action
There’s a physical quality to Aries as this is a competitive sign and Aries likes to win. Aries’ ruling planet Mars is linked to strength and stamina and martial arts are named after the God of War.
Whether you’re walking or running daily or you’re leaping into a yoga warrior pose every morning, this is the perfect time to start a physical activity that makes you stronger.
2. Healthy Habits
Many people use the start of the year to begin a New Year’s resolution and commit to healthy habits. Yet, it makes sense to use the Equinox energy to focus on your health, especially in the northern hemisphere. The weather is less grim and cold and spring means less clothes!
Start a detox, eat smaller portions or any other new habit that boosts your energy levels. Honour your body. Aries mantra: “my body is a temple”.
3. Be Spontaneous
Fire signs, like Aries, are the ‘just do it’ brigade and Aries is the expert at starting something new. This isn’t about the mind and thinking things through. It’s about spontaneous action, immediacy, acting without thinking.
This can be seen as foolish, which is why The Fool card in the Tarot is linked to Aries, the first card of the tarot deck. There’s a naive innocence to the star sign Aries. Yet, how many times do you look back on your life and think ‘if I hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t be where I am now’? Admittedly, there’s a proviso here because both Mercury (communication ) and Venus (relating) are retrograde in Aries. Yet, you can still use this time to explore and experiment.
4. March Into Spring
Aries is the star sign of the crusader, the white knight of the zodiac, ready to go into battle to fight a good cause and Mars is God of War in mythology. Therefore, this is the perfect time of year to join a community initiative, stand up for what you believe in, defend the weak and fight for peoples’ rights.
An independent star sign, Aries understands that you only need one person to make a difference. One small act can make a huge impact. Don’t wait for other people to initiate action. If there’s something you feel strongly about and you know you can help other people, here’s your opportunity.
5. The Sap Is Rising
Mars rules your libido and it’s the planet linked to sexuality and passion. The birds and the bees are getting in on the action and new life is budding. You only need to step out into the countryside or go for a walk to notice that the animal world is starting to feel frisky.
Plus, sex has a number of physical benefits as it releases oxytocin and other feel-good hormones into your body which can ease pain, boost your mood, even help smooth your wrinkles! In the words of Aries soul-singer Marvin Gaye: ‘Let’s get it on’.
6. Be a Diva – Big Yourself Up
If you’ve seen a true Aries in action, they are not afraid to tell you how good they are at their job or reel off their impressive list of credentials. Aries tends to be brilliant at self-advertisement, even if it can flip into arrogance or boasting. Yet, diva-like behaviour isn’t always a bad thing as it gets you noticed and it’s a good thing to love yourself.
In a world where modesty can be a revered quality, it doesn’t do any harm to let the world know who you are. Celebrate your individuality and focus on your personal strengths. Be an Aries diva like Lady Gaga, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Elton John and let your confident self do the talking.
7. Sow Seeds
Aries is the initiator of the zodiac, where new beginnings take place and new life comes into being. This is the ideal time of year to sow seeds, whether you’re doing it in your garden or in life in general. What small steps can you take now that will plant an acorn or a seed that can grow into something bigger over time?
Even if you don’t have a clear picture of where you’re heading, what you start could lead you down a new future path. Some projects will work out, some will fall by the wayside, just like seeds – some germinate, some never make it. Yet the more seeds you sow, the greater your chance of success. Again, here’s the theme of experimentation.
