NEW MOON [2 Leo 08]
July 24 2025 (20:11 GMT+1)
New Moon Leo
This week, there’s a New Moon in Leo, a symbol of new beginnings. The Sun shines bright in Leo, the star sign linked to royalty. The essence of Leo is to be at the heart of proceedings, the centre of attention, just like the Sun at the centre of the universe.
Leo, the big cat, thrives when it receives plenty of stroking, accolade and admiration. Leo is a creative star sign, so this is about your identity, your unique skills and talents, what makes you ‘you’.
Make your mark this week, be audacious, have fun, party like there’s no tomorrow. Do your thing, find your passion, follow your heart.
Let the Sun and Moon in Leo empower you to take centre stage and show off your skills and talents. Be wary of slipping into bossiness or arrogant behaviour but don’t miss out on this chance to perform and have a good time.
New Moon Energy
A New Moon is the start of a new Moon phase. It’s the ideal time to set your intentions, turn to a fresh page and consider where in life you’re starting over. New Moon energy is proactive, forward-moving and great for taking the initiative.
Make a wish when you first see the crescent Moon in the night sky at the weekend.
This New Moon takes place on July 24 at 20:11 GMT+1. Therefore, it’s after this time that is most potent for New Moon wishes – speak them out loud or write them down.
The New Moon phase remains active up until the Full Moon in two weeks time which takes place on August 9. This is important for another reason – Mercury retrograde.
Mercury Retrograde
It’s worth noting that during this New Moon, communication planet Mercury remains retrograde in Leo. Mercury is on go slow from July 18 to August 11. This doesn’t mean that those New Moon wishes aren’t relevant – they absolutely are, so set your intentions and sow seeds.
At the same time, be aware that what you set in motion may take longer to come to fruition. Seeds that are sown might require patience and faith that they will grow and flourish in time.
The turning point comes in two weeks time when the Full Moon (August 9) falls two days before Mercury turns direct (August 11).
Pluto Power
Usually, the theme of a New Moon is new beginnings. However, as you’ll see by the title of this article, this New Moon highlights endings and beginnings. Perhaps, something has to complete or finish before you can start over.
This is because the Sun is opposite Pluto during the New Moon. The opposition is exact less than 12 hours later. The Sun represents light and illumination and it can be a tough experience when the Sun is opposed by Pluto, the planet representing the dark and the underworld.
When the Sun is opposite Pluto, dig deep, go into the shadows, look in the dark places to excavate new understandings and personal insights. Pluto is the planet linked to self-analysis.
At its best, this combination has the potential to transform and change lives and it can work on both an inner and outer level. Yet, it’s not for the faint-hearted.
This opposition takes place at the beginning of the Leo/Aquarius axis of the zodiac and an ongoing power struggle or conflict may flare up again. This could be linked to what took place in November 2024 and again in January & April 2025.
The Big Pattern
The Sun’s opposition to Pluto is pivotal during this New Moon – who or what is blocking the light? Pluto’s God of the underworld and a formidable opponent.
Yet, we now have a big pattern playing out in the heavens between the three modern planets. Uranus is at the start of Gemini, Neptune is at the start of Aries and Pluto is at the start of Aquarius. They are all working together.
Therefore, whatever unfolds for you during this New Moon week, consider where you have support. The air signs, Gemini & Aquarius, represent the collective, society, the tribe & friendship while fire sign Aries is the activist & individual.
We’re not alone on this earth and the more we lean into working together, the easier our path moving forward.
