Mars Opposite Pluto – April 27
A Mars-Pluto opposition isn’t a bright and breezy influence. This is because, in mythology, Mars is God of war and Pluto is God of the underworld. In astrology, Mars rules action, passion and anger while Pluto rules loss, endings and power. It’s a formidable face-off of two dominant planets.
This is the third of three major Mars-Pluto oppositions, the first took place on November 3, 2024 at the end of Cancer/Capricorn and the second took place on January 3, 2025 at the beginning of Leo/Aquarius while Mars was retrograde. This is the final clash and it falls at 3° Leo/Aquarius.
US Election
What’s notable is that the Mars-Pluto opposition was a major aspect in the astrology leading up to the US Election when Trump was elected. Trump is a Sun Gemini with Mars in Leo on the Ascendant, the red planet. Mars is impulsive, trigger-happy, angry and direct.
It’s incredibly hard to keep up with what’s happening in the USA, except to say that there’s been a lot of dismantling. In response, there’s been strong opposition to what looks like a reign of destruction. Trump seems like an out-of-control dictator, while some people think he’s doing what’s right and handling an out-of-control debt situation.
Reading this Mars-Pluto opposition for the third time, it makes me wonder whether Trump represented by Mars in Leo will be in contention with the ‘tech bros’ represented by Pluto in Aquarius. Pluto in Aquarius is a powerful symbol of ‘power to the people’. Yet, we’re seeing the reality of the tech billionaires holding the power in the new world.
Certainly, it feels as if something is coming full circle since the election. There was a Full Moon in Taurus on November 15, 2024 and the New Moon in Taurus falls on the same day as the Mars-Pluto opposition on April 27th.
Mars will remain in Leo until mid-June, so Mars is strong for Trump for another couple of months. Yet, Pluto means business and it will be interesting to see where the opposition arises.
On A Personal Level
In your own life, consider where there’s an ongoing clash or conflict. The Mars-Pluto opposition suggests a challenge in life, an all-or-nothing decision, an ultimatum which is bringing heat and volatility to the mix.
You may already know who or what you’re up against or where in life you’re ready to admit defeat and give in. Sometimes, endings are necessary to clear room for new energy to come in.
Recognise in yourself which side of the rope you’re holding on to in the inevitable tug-of-war and be clear about what you’re fighting for. Use your fury and passion (Mars), your power and resilience (Pluto) to bring about the right kind of change.
Take good care of yourself towards the end of this week and don’t put yourself in a situation which could turn volatile or violent.
The Data
I’m posting this article at the beginning of the week as it’s not only about the opposition on April 27th. The Sun in Taurus is square to Mars in Leo on April 21st and square to Pluto in Aquariuson April 23rd. Therefore, the beginning of this week is when tensions could start to rise.
Plus, if you have planets or angles close to 3° of the fixed star signs – Leo & Aquarius, Taurus & Scorpio – you’re in the hot zone. Pluto is gearing up to turn retrograde on May 4th and won’t leave 3° Aquarius until early July.
Tap into the side of Mars/Pluto mentioned above, i.e. use your fury and passion, your power and resilience to good effect. Dig deep and be strong.
Alternatively, consider where a conflict situation may be coming to an end. Think about what endings are taking place in your own life. It might be the right time to close a door on the past, especially if you’re caught up in an impossible situation where there are no winners.

My natal Mars is 5 Leo, my Mars return for a second time! Life is very hard at present. Any thoughts or advice for me please?
Virgo Sun 10
It’s actually your Mars return for a 3rd time. Hopefully any challenges which began in December 2024 can now be resolved. Your Mars return is great for willpower and determination. Sending best wishes.
Hi Cindy, I’ve translated your comment (although I do understand it as I studied German at university and lived there for 18 months!) Here it is in English: “I’ve never found a place on earth where I feel comfortable and can and want to stay longer, and just today I had a conflict with someone who isn’t willing to change their behavior… In my birth chart, I have a Mars Pluto conjunction in Libra and Chiron in Taurus. The ascending lunar node is in Leo.” Conflict situations are a key feature of this Mars-Pluto opposition and now’s the time to consider whether you want to fight or step back. You know about Mars-Pluto as it’s pivotal in your own chart. I often find that it’s calling you to step into your own power and you often have challenges around power and control to teach you how to do so. It’s a fierce combination even in Libra – use your charm and diplomacy to good effect and wield your own power well. Sending best wishes,
Hello .. natal chart is mars in aquarius 6 degrees. In 4th house And my moon is almost exact 18 degree conjunction with 19 degree pluto in leo in 11th house. …. .. very challenged internally And external. .. i was fire victim 3 years ago .. house was saved but i knew many friends. Some killed
I’m sorry for your loss Sam. It sounds tough. Remember that a transit or symbol doesn’t just mean one thing and feeling scared or worried isn’t what astrology is about. Often it helps you make sense of things that are happening in your life but it’s important to use the astrology to decide your best course of action. Pluto often indicates the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new chapter so consider what you’re leaving behind and where you’re ready to start over. Sending best wishes.
I have this placement natally. I’m an Aries Sun , Mercury, Mars and Venus opp Pluto in Libra.
I know what this means wholeheartedly 🙏. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger or does it.
My Saturn in Taurus is at 5 degrees in my 6th house (western equal house astrology)- the transiting sun is there currently in a T-square with Mars/Pluto opposition. I only looked after I made a hard decision today to put an end date on a certain job I have been doing. Had I looked at the astrology I might have waited, but I do like what you’ve said here about having to let something go and it not necessarily being a bad thing. Hopefully I was able to put boundaries in constructively with my mercury in Gemini at 5 degrees.
Sounds great, Philippa. Definitely a time to be letting go of things that aren’t working out 🙂
My MC/IC is 3 degrees 47 minutes of Aquarius/Leo. I’m…. nervous to say the least haha. But I suppose there could be something helpful and productive here about purging inner conflict and ambivalence about the balance between showing up publicly and maintaining privacy.
Yes – and it can be a true transformation of your career/future path. Notice what arises without being nervous 🙂 Life is change, not static. Sending best wishes.
Im a Taurus 44 and i m being confronted about my past by some cancers in the family.
Saturn in 26 gemini the fingers.I don’t remember when my finger tips started to have bone issues but i judge that i must not have been responsible to cause it. And its a point against me.
Maybe the cancer of 1999.
Mars is in cancer 26ish 3rd and at 26 i was lead character of the coffin representing abortion deaths in back in Ottawa 1970.
I am seeing that theme more now the protecting of women. So gemini rising too 8 Uranus there I traveled, studied and went beyond belief. What am i saying. Am i disqualified as a good mom.?
Trouble is brewing between the tauras s and the cancers. The south node is 3 AQ before it went Rx in Cap. to sit on the degree ruling inheritances but not big.
Can i just say that cause the oppo is almost over so whatever – i tried to communicate today but no budging off hand. What concerns me is what is put out that hurts my situation more than what is. Nit picking.
Any ?? thing?? that you can see or help in the situation? I would appreciate.
Now i woke my neighbours up.
Hi Sally, I have Leo Sun conjunct Pluto in Virgo in the 2nd, square Mars in Gemini in the 11th. Neptune in 4th house at 6 Scorpio. I am currently studying with a class where I (we all) have to strip down to underwear to allow examination and palpation of anatomical structures. I find this aspect of the classes quite traumatic. I am on guard for the classes on the 28th and 29th April! Will do my best to avoid conflict – I don’t have good social skills – hoping my less revealing sports bra doesn’t wind up my class mates….
Wow – that sounds quite extreme. The astrology is calmer on 28/29 April after the New Moon Taurus – modesty is the key 🙂 Sending best wishes.
