Chiron Enters Taurus: Centaur Extraordinaire

Chiron In Astrology

Chiron is an asteroid which was discovered in 1977. Its symbolism represents healing and, in the last 50 years, healing has become a buzz word, whether this involves healing the planet, healing others or healing the self. In astrology, Chiron is often termed the wounded healer.

In your own horoscope, if Chiron is prominent, i.e. is conjunct another planet or on angle of the horoscope, there may be themes of wounds and healing in your own life.

For example, I’ve seen clients who are healers and doctors with Chiron on the Midheaven (career/future path) and clients who have had to deal with injury or a physical disability born with Chiron on the Ascendant (personal point).

By transit, Chiron is often linked to mental health issues. In my own life, Neptune going over my natal Chiron was a period when anxiety kicked in. Chiron transits can sometimes coincide with being injured or wounded physically.

Alternatively, it’s a time when you dive deep into a healing process. It can play out in different ways and, if Chiron’s prominent in your horoscope, you probably have your own story around wounding or healing.

Chiron Return

You experience your Chiron Return age 50 which, for many women, coincides with the menopause. Yet, for both sexes, 50 can be an age when the body starts to change and, more often than not, you need to prioritise looking after your body, your health and well-being on a daily level.

The Chiron Return is said to be an ideal time to release past wounds. In personal opinion, your 50’s are a decade when you stop worrying so much about what other people think and become less sensitive to criticism.

The Chiron Return often marks a shift in the way that Chiron works. The 50’s are a decade when you start looking at your legacy, what you’ve learned in your lifetime and how you can pass on your knowledge and wisdom. It’s a time to give back and help heal other peoples’ wounds. This process in itself can be deeply self-fulfilling.

Chiron In Mythology

In mythology, Chiron was a centaur – half man, half horse – and said to be the ‘wisest and justest of all centaurs’. Although a centaur, Chiron’s physical appearance often differs from other centaurs, demonstrating his status and heritage.

In traditional Greek representations of Chiron his front legs are human, rather than equine. This is in contrast to the traditional representation of centaurs, which have the entire lower body of a horse.

This set Chiron apart from the other centaurs. He is often depicted wearing clothes, demonstrating he is more civilised and unlike a normal wild or untamed lusty centaur. Chiron was learned and a tutor to the younger Greek heroes. He knew the art of medicine, herbs, music, archery, hunting, gymnastics, and prophecy.

Chiron In Taurus Themes

Chiron’s orb is erratic and spends longer in some star signs than others. Chiron’s been in fire sign Aries since 2018 and, this week, Chiron begins its journey into earth sign Taurus on June 19.

Chiron will move back into Aries on September 18 and only returns to Taurus on April 14, 2027. There it will remain for another seven years until 2033/2034.

Taurus rules the body, food, nature and the earth. It’s linked to money, productivity, building and farming. Therefore, will these areas of life be wounded or healed as Chiron enters Taurus?

Certainly, as Chiron begins its journey into earth sign Taurus, poverty (money) and hunger (food) are desperate situations for many people in the world, two areas of life that require healing. In addition, global warming is becoming more extreme and there’s increased awareness of the environmental damage being done to our earth and seas.

The economy too is at a critical point as the cost of living rises for many people and the inequality of wealth division is blatantly obvious. And, no doubt, farming and housing will be major issues moving forward.

In addition, body dysmorphia, obesity and cosmetic beauty treatments all seem to be on the rise. Will these issues intensify as Chiron moves through Taurus?

On a personal level, a positive way of using Chiron’s move into Taurus would be to learn to love, cherish and honour your own body and taking personal responsibility about what you can do to help the environment. Less dependency on fast foods and more enjoyment of home cooking and growing your own food free of pesticides, more overground travel and less flights.

Chiron’s nature is the sometimes-forgotten link between man and spirit as Chiron was half-human and half-animal. Another reminder to tend to our planet and the responsibility each of us carries to the earth we stand on.

Previous Chiron Transits In Taurus

Looking back in history can help us see how a new Chiron transit may impact the collective – as above, so below. There are no doubt many more examples of the symbolism of Chiron in Taurus but here’s what leapt out:

1926-1934

An obvious example here is the financial crash of 1929 which started the Great Depression (1929-1939). This was the Inter-War era and a farm crisis began in the 1920‘s. By the end of Chiron’s move through Taurus, new acts came into place to help the farming communities. Interestingly, this was an era when classic parenting advice was along the lines of ‘never hug and kiss children‘ or ‘handle the baby as little as possible‘ negating the body and the importance of hugs and physical affection.

1976-1984

The last time Chiron was in Taurus was another period of recession, although not as major as the Great Crash of 1929. However, this period included the Winter of Discontent in the UK (1978-1979), an unusually cold winter, characterised by widespread strikes. Maggie Thatcher became Prime Minster in 1979, the start of a decade of privatisation and major economic reform. The ‘body’ symbolism of wounding and healing can be seen in the start of the Aids crisis in the 1980‘s and the One Child Policy which was introduced into China in 1979.

It would be lovely to hear what other examples you may have – please do write in the comments box below – especially if you have examples of healing taking place.

Chiron & Uranus

In astronomy, Chiron lies between the orbit of Saturn, the last traditional planet, and Uranus, the first modern planet. This is why Chiron is sometimes referred to as a bridge between the old world and the new world.

I’ve seen a few client examples of how Chiron on the IC or linked to the Moon coincides with a connection to the past, whether you are called to honour your family and legacy or you are somehow atoning for the sins of the past. It can represent a karmic healing as you take on past hurts, which may not even be part of your lifetime but further back.

Chiron and Uranus are often in partnership. For example, 100 years ago (1926-1934) Chiron was leading the way for Uranus. As Chiron left Taurus in 1934, Uranus was entering Taurus where it would remain for the next seven years.

Then, 50 years ago (1976-1984), Chiron was opposite Uranus, part of a long-term opposition. In fact, many people born from the 1950’s to the 1980’s have this opposition in their horoscope. This is sometimes a point of sensitivity in the chart, where you can be vulnerable or easily hurt. When Chiron was in Taurus, Uranus was in Scorpio, the axis of birth and death, fertility and sexuality.

This time around (2026-2034), Chiron is following Uranus. For example, Uranus was in Aries from 2011-2018 and Chiron was in Aries from 2018-2026. Then, Uranus was in Taurus from 2018-2026 and now, Chiron is moving into Taurus from 2026-2034.

It feels as the two planets are working together and understanding one planet and its impact could help reveal more about the other planet and its impact in a specific star sign.
