Why You’re Wise To Celebrate Friday 13th

You would think it’s not that unusual to have Friday 13th in the yearly calendar. Yet, this year, there will be three Friday 13 dates in February, March & November 2026.

The superstition around the date means it’s often considered an unlucky day. Is 13 really an unlucky number? The 13th floor is often missing in big hotels and no. 13 doesn’t always appear in house numbers, so something’s up. 

If you google Friday 13, one of the stories that appears is linked to the Bible and the Last Supper. There were 13 people around the table, Jesus and his 12 disciples, one of whom Judas was his betrayer. One possible reason why 13 is said to be an unlucky number.

Moon Goddess

There’s another reason, however, and this one links back to ancient times when the calendar was based on the lunar cycle and Moon Goddesses were worshipped. 

In ancient times, the calendar was based on the cycles of the Moon and no. 13 corresponded to the number of lunar cycles in a year.

As the Solar calendar took over from the Lunar calendar, the number 13 fell out of favour being replaced by the no. 12 – 12 months in a year, 12 star signs linked to the Sun’s movement through the zodiac. 

The realm of the Moon is the dark, spooky and witchy and the opposite of the world of reason and logic. Yet, the dark is as essential as the light and a place where magic and meaning reside.

Friday – Venus’ Day

The other significant fact about Friday 13 is that Friday is the day of the week ruled by Venus, the planet that rules women.

Therefore, Friday 13 is a female concept as it’s associated with both the Moon and Venus, the two female planetary bodies.

Fall into the superstition surrounding Friday 13 and you’re not worshipping a day that has links to the Divine Feminine and ultimately Mother Earth.

Rather than fear Friday 13, embrace its witchiness, its hidden qualities and know that this is a special and magical date.
