Update: April 26 201 – the results are in! A great haul again this year. Mars in Cancer on the MC really did stand out – those moving (Mars) homes (Cancer) saw Nomadland win Best Film, Best Director – Chloe Zhao & Best Actress – Frances McDormand, who is a Sun Cancer! Astrology helped predict all the winners bar two and then they were my second choice. Pleased with the results especially as I haven’t yet seen one film – I’m looking forward to Nomadland & Promising Young Woman.
Last year, the Oscars were held early on February 9, 2020 apparently in an attempt to shake up the lengthy, expensive campaigns. Maybe they knew something we didn’t?! as this obviously meant the virus wasn’t mainstream news by then.
It did mean that for the first time the Oscars wasn’t taking place during Pisces season, which is the perfect timing for the glamour & glitz of the movies.
This year, the Oscars is happening later than usual in Taurus season, which doesn’t seem quite right but there we are. The big event will reportedly happen in two venues, not one and some of the ceremony will be outdoors. There’ll be a London broadcast hub for the Brit nominees and similar for other countries but they are going to limit Zoom speeches/presentations.
Obviously, most of the movies up for honours were viewed on streaming platforms rather than in cinemas this year. I haven’t seen any of them this year which is unusual. Whether this influences my excellent prediction record remains to be seen.
As, the Arts have been hit badly by the virus/lockdowns, I think it’s fantastic that the Oscars are happening. As they say in showbiz, ‘the show must go on‘.
Oscars’ Astrology
It’s always worth taking a quick look at the symbolism of the astrology for the start of the Oscars’. Wherever you find Jupiter, the biggest & best planet, is important as Jupiter transits promise success.
Aquarius is the star sign of the moment and anyone with key planets/angles on or around 27 Aquarius could do well.
Taurus dominates the chart with the Sun, Venus, Mercury and Uranus all in the sign of the bull. Yet, note Mars on the Midheaven (success point) in Cancer, the most elevated planet in the chart. Mars could indicate a strong Oscars’ season for Aries & Scorpio, Mars’ signs of rulership. It may give a nod to the themes to watch out for – see Best Film below.
The Saturn-Uranus square is being triggered during the weekend by the inner planets so perhaps this will show as technology glitches. And, no doubt some political views on what’s happening around the world.
On with the show…
Best Supporting Actress
- Maria Bakalova (b. June 4 1996) – Sun Gemini, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm
- Glenn Close (b. March 19, 1947) – Sun Pisces, Hillbilly Elegy
- Olivia Colman (b. January 30, 1974) – Sun Aquarius, The Father
- Amanda Seyfried (b. December 3, 1985) – Sun Sagittarius, Mank
- WINNER! Youn Yuh-Jung (b. June 19, 1947) – Sun Gemini, Minari
No times of birth for any of the actresses above, apart from Glenn Close. Two of the actresses are having their Jupiter Return years, always hopeful for a win – Olivia Colman (Jupiter 21 Aquarius) and Amanda Seyfried (Jupiter 12 Aquarius).
Olivia Colman won the Oscar for Best Actress two years ago in 2019 and pushed out the favourite Glenn Close, who has been nominated 8 times but never won. Could it be a repeat scenario? Very possibly. as Olivia also has Mercury at 24 Aquarius, so Jupiter is unusually active for her this year.
However, Glenn Close has her Moon at 23 Aquarius, which we know as she has a timed chart, so Aquarius rules in this category.
I wouldn’t, however, count out Youn Yuh-Jung who won the Bafta in this category. She may be a Gemini but she was born on a Sun-Uranus conjunction and Uranus is Aquarius’ planet. Plus, her Moon may be in early degrees Cancer, which would put it on the Midheaven of the Oscar’s chart.
Astrologer’s Choice: Without a time of birth, I can’t go for Youn Yuh-Jung, who I feel will win it. From an astrology viewpoint, I’m going for Olivia Colman (unless Glenn Close’s isn’t allowed to go home trophy-less again!)
Best Supporting Actor
- Sacha Baron Cohen (b. October 13, 1971) Sun Libra, The Trial of the Chicago 7
- WINNER! Daniel Kaluuya (b. May 8 1981) – Sun Taurus, Judas and the Black Messiah
- Leslie Odom Jr (b. August 6 1981) – Sun Leo, One Night in Miami
- Paul Raci (b. April 7 1948) – Sun Aries, Sound of Metal
- LaKeith Stanfield (b. August 12 1991) – Sun Leo, Judas and the Black Messiah
No times of birth for any of the above actors making it super difficult to find a winner via astrology. Maybe the Sun Aries gets a heads-up because of Mars on the Midheaven of the Oscars’ chart. Paul Raci also has his north node at 15 Taurus so the Venus/Mercury conjunction lights up the karmic point in his chart.
Sacha Baron Cohen was born on a Sun-Uranus conjunction and his Mars is at 18 Aquarius, so there’s a slight nod towards the Aquarius theme.
Two of the actors, Leslie Odom Jr and Daniel Kaluuya have Mars in Cancer and most strikingly for Daniel, his Mars is at 5 Cancer and exactly conjunct the Midheaven of the Oscars’ chart.
Astrologer’s Choice: Not great astrology to choose from but maybe the Mars’ signature might be enough for Daniel Kaluuya to mirror his Bafta win.
Best Actress
- Viola Davis (b. August 11 1965) – Sun Leo, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
- Andra Day (b. December 30 1984) – Sun Capricorn, The United States vs. Billie Holiday
- Vanessa Kirby (b. April 18 1988) – Sun Aries, Pieces of a Woman
- WINNER! Frances McDormand (b. June 23 1957) – Sun Cancer, Nomadland
- Carey Mulligan (b. May 28 1985) – Sun Gemini, Promising Young Woman
Again, no times of birth for any of the actresses. Four of them have Aquarius planets – Viola Davis – Moon Aquarius (no degree because of no birth time); Andra Day – Venus 24 Aquarius – nice; Vanessa Kirby – Mars 7 Aquarius; Carey Mulligan – Jupiter 16 Aquarius – her Jupiter Return year.
The only one who doesn’t is Frances McDormand who won the Bafta. Her Sun is at 1 Cancer so Mars is slap bang on it. Plus, she has her Moon in Taurus but we don’t know the degree because no time of birth! If it’s at 9-10 Taurus and triggered by Uranus, that’s a win in my book.
Astrologer’s Choice: I think this category is between Frances McDormand and Carey Mulligan. I think Carey might just sneak it.
Best Actor
- Riz Ahmed (b. December 1 1982) – Sun Sagittarius, Sound of Metal
- Chadwick Boseman (b. November 29 1976) – Sun Sagittarius, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
- WINNER! Anthony Hopkins (b. December 31 1937) – Sun Capricorn, The Father
- Gary Oldman (b. March 21 1958) – Sun Aries, Mank
- Steven Yeun (b. December 21 1983) – Sun Sagittarius, Minari
Two times of birth in this category – Anthony Hopkins and Gary Oldman. Plus, three Sagittarians. Out of those three, Riz Ahmed was born on a Sun/Uranus conjunction, the best signature for the Oscars’ chart.
Gary Oldman is a Sun Aries and has two planets in Aquarius, Venus & Mars but not within orb of Jupiter. Yet, the ‘oldie’, Anthony Hopkins is having his Uranus Return – bonkers! – yes, his Uranus is at 9 Taurus.
The favourite is Chadwick Boseman to win posthumously as he sadly passed away last year. Without a time of birth, there’s nothing to back that up in the astrology.
Astrologer’s Choice: I have to go for Anthony Hopkins on his Uranus Return!
Best Director
- Thomas Vinterberg (b. May 19 1969) – Sun Taurus, Another Round
- David Fincher (b. August 28 1962) – Sun Virgo, Mank
- Lee Isaac Chung (b. October 19 1978) – Sun Libra, Minari
- WINNER! Chloé Zhao (b. March 31 1982) – Sun Aries, Nomadland
- Emerald Fennell (b. October 1 1985) – Sun Libra, Promising Young Woman
Two women in this category – hoorah! The last and only time a woman won Best Director was 2010 – Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker.
I’m itching for a woman to win again and they both have a great chance. Of the three male directors, David Fincher’s astrology looks promising. It’s his second Saturn Return year – Saturn at 6 Aquarius and his Mars is at 4 Cancer.
Emerald Fennell has her Jupiter Return year – always great news – and her Jupiter is at 7 Aquarius. Yet, it’s Chloe Zhao, the favourite who zings nicely with the Oscar’s chart. A Sun Aries, her Moon probably in Cancer and she has Venus at 23 Aquarius so Jupiter’s her friend.
Astrologer’s Choice: No times of birth for any of the five directors but I’m willing Chloe Zhao to be the second woman to win Best Director.
Best Picture
- The Father
- Judas and the Black Messiah
- Mank
- Minari
- WINNER! Nomadland
- Promising Young Woman
- Sound of Metal
- The Trial of the Chicago 7
Mars in Cancer on the Midheaven is the stand-out signature of the chart, so you’re looking for family themes, homes, etc. You could probably make a case for some of the other movies as an astrological symbol doesn’t mean just one thing – it could also be about race, Cancer being the clan, the tribe.
As I haven’t watched any of the movies – not great! – I’m having to rely on internet synopses. I like them in this order, 1. Nomadland, 2. Minari and 3. The Trial of the Chicago 7.

I think it is time for a sports prediction like Roland Garros 🙂
