October’s Astrology

How is it October already? This year seems to be speeding up as it goes along and it’s been a bumpy ride for many people since the change of season at the Equinox on September 22nd. The period between eclipses often feels unstable as the pace of life speeds up. Here’s what’s coming up:

Solar Eclipse Libra – October 2

The second of two eclipses takes place on October 2nd. This is eclipse season, so power and drama remain firmly under the cosmic spotlight.

Last month’s eclipse on September 18th was a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, the start of a new eclipse cycle cutting across the Virgo/Pisces star signs.

This month’s eclipse is a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra which is part of the eclipse cycle which began in April 2023 and completes in March 2025. This eclipse cycle has been important for Aries and Libra in particular.

The eclipse will be powerful wherever it falls in your horoscope and is especially potent if you have planets/angles close to 10° Libra.

A New Moon Solar Eclipse is the equivalent of a turbo-powered New Moon when change happens fast and you step into a new chapter or portal.

Yet, sometimes a new beginning only takes place after an ending. This is especially true during this month’s eclipse as it falls next to the south node in Libra, a karmic point of release and letting go.

Here are some eclipse tips:

  • Try not to fear an eclipse – they are a reminder that fate is part of your destiny.
  • Ideally, don’t choose an eclipse date to launch a project or start something new.
  • Wait a few days after an eclipse before taking action. Eclipse symbolism is shadowy and hidden.
  • Once the eclipse shadow lifts, then you can take advantage of any changes that have occurred.
  • Know that eclipses are closely linked to the karmic nodes – they often act as a signpost or turning point.

Full Moon Aries – October 17

October’s Full Moon on October 17th isn’t part of the eclipse cycle and yet, it may feel as if change is on the horizon. This is because the Sun and Moon are square to Mars and Pluto during the Full Moon phase.

This creates a Grand Cross pattern in the cardinal star signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Therefore, a good question to ask is ‘what’s your cross to bear?’

Cardinal star signs are the leaders and motivators of the zodiac – push things through on this Full Moon, be bold and notice where you may be up against conflict or opposition.

This isn’t a month to sit back and go with the flow. Life is calling you out to engage actively and stand up for what you believe in. Relationships are foreground during Libra season up until October 22nd, so dive in deep to ensure your needs are met.

Turning Points

Two major planets switch direction this month, big planet Jupiter turns retrograde in Gemini on October 9th and power planet Pluto turns direct in Capricorn on October 12th.

Jupiter is the biggest planet in the universe and the best planet in astrology. It represents opportunity, expansion and growth and is the planet linked to luck and good fortune.

Even though Jupiter switches to retrograde motion, the planet’s energy is amplified or intensified. Therefore, this could be good news if you have key planets/angles close to 21° Gemini.

Pluto is the planet of extremes, linked to power and control. It can wipe out and raze to the ground but is also a symbol of the phoenix who rises from the ashes.

Pluto is at the last degree of Capricorn, getting ready to move back into Aquarius on November 19th, the start of a new world chapter. This shift indicates that the old ways can’t be maintained and may have to be broken down before they can be rebuilt in a new form.

Consider what’s coming to completion in your own life and where you’re getting ready to do things differently and start over.

Scorpio Season

Scorpio season begins officially on October 22nd. However, the planet of relating Venus is in Scorpio until October 17th and talk planet Mercury enters Scorpio on October 13th. This means that the Scorpio themes of power and transformation are prevalent throughout October.

Scorpio season coincides with Halloween, Day of the Dead and Samhain, a powerful time to reconnect with ancestors and embrace the world of the dark and the dead.

During Scorpio season in the northern hemisphere, nature begins to break down to mulch back into the earth creating rich compost for a new season of growth next year.

The cycle of life, death, rebirth and renewal is closely aligned with the star sign Scorpio. Tap into your witchy nature, grab your black cat and broomstick and conjure up some magic this October.
