Traditionally, August is Leo season as the Sun is here until the 23rd. This time around, however, you have your ruling planet Venus in Leo for an unusually long time and, throughout August, Venus is in retrograde phase. Leo rules your home and family, your link to the past.
Retrograde planets often take you on a journey into the past. Perhaps, you’re visiting your parents or the place you grew up. Or, there may be other reasons why you’re immersed in themes from your past.
The Full Moon on the 1st cuts across the Leo/Aquarius axis of your horoscope linking your past and your future. You may see clearly where you come from and how that impacts where you’re heading. Use the Full Moon to trust your intuition. Your astrology is urging you to be true to who you are, rather than follow in the footsteps of someone else.
The New Moon on the 16th falls in Leo, a symbol of new beginnings. This is a magical New Moon that’s blessed by the Sun-Venus retrograde cazimi conjunction on the 13th.
Love and wildness run deeply through this New Moon. You may be honouring a woman in your life, someone who taught you to live fiercely. Look out for synchronicities too, that can help you discover what home and family mean to you.
Walking Your Own Path
This is retrograde season when things don’t always work out the way you expect. Plus, life may feel unsettled for other reasons. Or, perhaps you’re choosing to do things differently and want to be more independent.
This has a lot to do with two planets in your star sign Taurus – Uranus, the planet of change and unpredictability and Jupiter, the planet of expansion and freedom. Both planets are active throughout August – on the 7th, 9th, 16th and 22nd. Ask yourself what you’re breaking free from. Or, where in life you’re walking an unconventional path, one that may not be in sync with your family or people dear to your heart.
Yes, this could be an exciting time when you’re open to new ideas or discovering new family. It does, however, feel full on. Therefore, it’s important you build some ‘me’ time into the midst of busyness.
Uranus turns direct in Taurus on the 29th. Sometimes, when an outer planet changes direction, it can feel intense. You may feel wired when Uranus’ activity kicks in. It’s lively and the opposite of grounded.
Try and make sense of what you’re feeling or experiencing. This could be personal to you, a time when you’re looking more closely at who you are and what you want and need. Sometimes, the only way you can discover this is when you experience the opposite, i.e. you’re in a place or situation that dissatisfies you more than fulfils you.
Virgo Season
Also throughout August, a host of planets are in your fellow earth sign Virgo. Action planet Mars is here until the 27th and talk planet Mercury is in Virgo throughout the month as Mercury turns retrograde on the 23rd. Plus, on the same day, the Sun enters Virgo.
This is good news for you as you are one of the sensual, fertile, creative earth signs and you’re likely to feel in your element. One of the important themes for you is enjoyment. Virgo rules fun, entertainment, luck, children, creative projects and love affairs in your horoscope.
This is about what you ‘give birth to’, what you produce and make. If you’re a typical Taurus, you may have a strong artistic or creative streak. Focus on this side of your nature throughout August and do more of what you love. When planets are retrograde, it’s an ideal time to immerse yourself in a hobby or passion.
It’s potentially a top month for love and romance too, as Virgo rules your romance sector. If you’re looking to meet someone new, don’t stay at home. Make the right moves and be friendly with the people you meet.
This could be an excellent month for dating and mating and upping the fun factor. However, remember the retrograde mantra – enjoy yourself but don’t make any final decisions. Be wary on the 22nd and 23rd in particular. Keep your wits about you, especially when you dare to open your heart and be vulnerable.
Yet, there’s potentially a lot of luck and opportunity up for grabs. Mars in Virgo teams up with Jupiter on the 1st, Uranus on the 16th and Pluto on the 25th. An earth sign triangle in the heavens urging you to step out of your comfort zone and expand your horizons. Nothing new begins if you’re not willing to take the first step.
There is an abundant theme running through your horoscope this month so make the most of it. Look at how you can improve your social life and find happiness in the small things. This is important moving forward, having the ability to seek gratitude and appreciation for all that life offers.
At the end of the month, there’s a second Full Moon in Pisces on the 31st, a magical Blue Moon. This would be a great date for a party or celebration or to honour an old friend or someone who’s no longer in your life. You may have a profound sense of the passing of time on or around this Full Moon and be reminded that the cycle of life, death and rebirth is eternal.
