Virgo Season
Virgo is the season linked to the harvest. In the northern hemisphere, the farmers are bringing in the crops ready for winter. Virgo season is the time to be resourceful, to stock up on what you need as you benefit from nature’s bounty.
It’s the season to sort the wheat from the chaff, to discern where your priorities lie. Virgo season is a time to analyse, weigh and measure your needs and tweak your daily routine accordingly.
Virgo is the star sign linked to ritual, honouring the markers of time, celebrating tradition, being thankful and grateful for what’s given. Ritual and routine help to ground you, instinctual behaviour which holds you firm.
It’s important to remember that Virgo is an earth sign, part of nature’s constancy, rhythm and rhyme, the poetry of life. When you focus overly on Virgo’s ruling planet, Mercury, equalling the mind, you can lose yourself in over-thinking, worry and anxiety. You lose the ability to trust and have faith in life and be in flow with life’s natural cycles.
Neptune’s Influence
Virgo season has been unique since 2012, because this is when Neptune moved into Pisces, Virgo’s opposite star sign. This year in particular, Neptune’s influence is strong as it combines with Jupiter in Sagittarius, triggering the Virgo planets throughout the first two weeks of September.
Neptune brings illusion, dreams and stirs the imagination. It’s yearning and hopeful; the flip side being disillusionment and feeling hopeless. Neptune’s boundless quality favours searching and seeking, going beyond the everyday. Ideally, this is done in a way that retains structure and form (Virgo’s domain), not casting off your ship without an anchor.
Neptune will be in Pisces during Virgo season until 2025. Therefore, the more you understand what this brings, the more you can work with it. As an astrologer, I’ve been witnessing synchronicities in my own life helping me understand better where life is calling.
The Artist, Chihuly
Firstly, I ended up at Kew Gardens with Christina, my podcast pal. I had an inkling that Dale Chihuly, the glass sculptor and artist, would be born during Virgo season. His work is intricately linked to nature and Virgo is the craftsperson, with an incredible aptitude for detail and refinement.
Not only was Chihuly born with the Sun in Virgo but the Sun sits in a tight conjunction to Neptune, a combination which is not only artistic & creative, but visionary too.
The Writer, Terzani
Secondly, I’ve been reading a wonderful book entitled ‘One More Ride On The Merry-Go-Round‘ by the Italian journalist, Tiziano Terzani.
The book is about Terzani’s search for a cure for his cancer which ends up taking him on a journey that leads him to so much more. And, when I looked up his birth data this week, I rather wonderfully discovered that he too was born on a Sun/Neptune conjunction in Virgo (three years before Chihuly).
For Terzani, the Sun/Neptune conjunction in Virgo is the symbol of the writer exploring alternative healing and the world beyond the rational. His book was a revelation to read as he dives deeper into meditation, silence & the world of the spirit.
It taught me so much and was the perfect book to read during Virgo season, with a large serving of Neptune. Here’s a little snippet that’s so relevant for what we’re experiencing right now:
The mind is the fruit of time. It is a storehouse of experience; it works with what it knows, and by its very nature does not go beyond that with which it is familiar.
When it has reached the rational limit, having failed in its attempt to find the solution within itself and what it has accumulated, the novice’s mind finally retreats and allows him to go further and make the step up in terms of consciousness which enables him to see things differently…
… We often have this kind of experience in the course of our lives: a problem appears to have no solution and the solution suddenly materialises outside the logic of the obvious ones.
This is what you too may be experiencing during Virgo season. Recognising the limitations of the mind and wanting to go beyond what’s possible.
While Neptune is in play, consider how you can stretch further, experience something new and alternative, whether you do this in a way that’s spiritual, artistic, compassionate or charitable. Seek out miracles in your own life.
For me personally, it’s a lovely synchronicity that this fortnight’s astrology is being mirrored in the work/life journey of two people both born on a Sun/Neptune conjunction in Virgo.
A Fortune Teller Told Me
A book that I often recommend to anyone wanting to delve more deeply into the worlds of astrology and divination, is another amazing book by Tiziano Terzani.
Entitled “A Fortune Teller Told Me: Earthbound Travels In The Far East“, it’s the story of one year in Terzani’s life as he travelled round the world, primarily in Asia consulting fortune tellers & astrologers. (there’s a link to buy the book on Amazon at the bottom of the article). It’s one of my all-time favourite books.
