SOLAR ECLIPSE [19 Gemini 47]

June 10, 2021 (11:53 GMT+1)

This week brings a Solar Eclipse in Gemini, the only New Moon eclipse in the sign of the twins during the current Gemini/Sagittarius eclipse cycle.

Eclipses always come in pairs and two weeks ago there was a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26, 2021. This pair of eclipses is made more powerful because both eclipses are full which happens approximately every 8 years.

The Lunar Eclipse was an unusually short total eclipse of the Moon and this week’s Solar Eclipse is a longer annular eclipse of the Sun. It will create a ring of fire effect as the shadow of the Moon fits within the circle of the Sun.

The eclipse will be visible in northern locations, e.g. Canada, Greenland & Russia. Yet, in other places around the world, you may see a partial eclipse. It’s definitely worth taking a look, although do remember you should never look directly at the sun during an eclipse. The date/time of the eclipse is Thursday 10th June at 10:53 GMT (you need to work out your timezone).

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich will be live-streaming the event (the eclipse is exact at midday in the UK but the eclipse show will start earlier). No doubt, there will be other live streams around the world.

Eclipse Themes

A Solar Eclipse is a New Moon with extra oomph. Think of it as a turbo-powered new beginning that can coincide with accelerated growth. Sometimes during an eclipse, there’s an ending first that creates the new beginning.

Think about eclipse symbolism – a shadow falls to reveal a new light or landscape – who or what is being eclipsed?

Eclipse themes are hugely important and I work a lot with them with my clients. This current eclipse cycle – June 2020 to December 2021 – mirrors past eclipses cycles – December 2001 to November 2003, back further – June 1982 to December 1984.

All three eclipse cycles fall in the signs of information, education, beliefs, transport & travel – Gemini & Sagittarius. Look back to June 2002 and there was a Solar Eclipse at 19 Gemini 54, also on June 10th, mirroring this week’s eclipse.

I was talking with a client recently about how during each of these three eclipse cycles, she began a fascinating new interest or career that lasted a few years. A new chapter opening up and linked to her 10th house where Gemini falls in her horoscope.

These kind of themes, the bigger picture of life, often tie in to eclipse cycles.

Illusion & Lies

This is an unusual eclipse for other reasons. Firstly, communication planet Mercury is currently retrograde, also in Gemini. Mercury’s been on go slow since May 29th and is in retreat until June 22nd.

This Mercury retrograde phase fell in my 3rd house doubling the communication theme. I’ve had a dodgy ankle so mobility has been slow – Gemini wants to move and be quick!

Plus, a classic misunderstanding over a payment which was delayed – although it’s just landed, maybe eclipse energy kicking in! – and the usual irritating technological issues. I’ve been head down in a big writing project too – all classic Mercury retrograde themes.

More importantly, during the eclipse, Mercury is moving closer to the Sun and 12 hours later is cazimi the Sun, i.e. at the same place in the zodiac. This is often a magical moment.

As Mercury, the planet that’s magician, messenger, trickster, psychopomp retreats through the zodiac, it has an audience with the Sun.

The Sun represents light, clarity, consciousness. This is extraordinary that there’s potentially a moment of insight or perception not long after the Sun has been in shadow, blotted out by the circle of the Moon.

The Sun/Mercury cazimi conjunction is exact on June 11th at 01:13 GMT and is especially powerful for a few hours either side. In Europe and Africa, pay attention to your dreams – unless you’re wide awake! Elsewhere in the world, pay close attention to your insights, news and flashes of inspiration.

As you may have guessed, even though the Solar Eclipse/cazimi moment could initiate something new, it’s not the time to act on it. Mercury retrograde remains hidden and it’s only when Mercury turns direct that the truth comes to light and new information is revealed. That date is June 22nd.

Plus, the other planetary aspect that’s in play during the Solar Eclipse is a square to Neptune and we know Neptune’s theme can be illusion, fantasy, lies and deception. This is a tricky time and it’s important to remain flexible and know that it’s hard to make plans right now.

Here in England, the government are constantly moving the goalposts – you can travel, you can’t travel; freedom day will happen, freedom day won’t happen. (n.b. the planet that represents freedom Jupiter turns retrograde on June 21st. This doesn’t look like Freedom Day happening and today’s news seems to confirm this).

So, we remain in uncharted territory, the blind leading the blind. Yet, there’s power in a Solar Eclipse, it’s fizzing with potential and blazing glory. Listen out for big events in the news on eclipse day and notice what happens in your own life.

What It Means For You

On a personal level, see where the Solar Eclipse falls in your horoscope, which house and which area of life, it triggers. Read both your Sun sign & your Ascendant sign.

Does the eclipse fall close to any specific planets/angles? – use a 1-2 degree orb either side. The key degrees are 19 Gemini (Solar Eclipse) & 5 Gemini/Sagittarius (Lunar Eclipse). Here’s a quick guide:

  • Gemini – personal goals, image & identity
  • Cancer – your inner world, retreat & sacrifice
  • Leo – friends, groups & wider society
  • Virgo – career & status, future path
  • Libra – global connections, travel & study
  • Scorpio – joint finances & sexuality
  • Sagittarius – love & relationships, contracts
  • Capricorn – job & health, service to others
  • Aquarius – birth i.e. kids, romance, creative projects
  • Pisces – home & family
  • Aries – community, siblings, communication
  • Taurus – money & assets, self-worth

  1. Hi Sally

As usual your blog Is thought-provoking, prescient and instructive – thank you! Certainly the theme of uncertainty given the eclipse topped off with Mercury retrograde is figuring in my own life. I’m in the process of selling my late mother’s home. I have to make a choice in the next day or so whether to wait a week or two for family friends to receive the go-ahead on the sale of their property once a normally straightforward legal document arrives, or sell to someone else who’s made an identical bid and is ready to proceed. It’s really difficult, and I can’t exactly tell either party that the current astrological climate isn’t propitious for decision making! I find making decisions onerous at the best of times (Libyan ascendant!), and feel terrible guilt at having to disappoint one or the other party.

Suppose it will all turn out as it’s meant to be in the end, but it is so frustrating in the meantime… I hope your own current irritations subside very soon.

    1. That was LIBRAN ascendant! Flipping spellcheck-it always seems to be on the ‘Allo ‘Allo setting! 🙈🤣

    2. Libyan ascendant – lol! Yes, tricky times for decisions as you say. All you can do is trust what you think is right and see what plays out. I think during these shadowy times that life decides anyway!

      1. Weirdly it has – the family friends decided not to continue due to the continuing obstacles, so at 11.51 (!!) I received a call from the estate agents and sold the house almost bang on the eclipse!! We’ll see what happens next…🤪
