This month is special as there are two New Moons, symbols of new beginnings. The first falls on New Year’s Day which makes the start of 2014 even more powerful to set your intentions and make a fresh start.
It’s a unique New Moon in that it not only includes the Sun and Moon but also Mercury (communication) and Pluto (loss/power) are in the line up. This gives the New Year extra punch, words have power and you will feel more determined to complete whatever you begin.
All these planets are in the sign of Capricorn ruling friendships, groups and your place in society. It’s about looking into the future, deciding what you want for yourself in 2014 and also the people you want and need by your side.
This is perfect timing to extend your social circle or your business network and get the people on side who can deliver what you ask for. Do you want more fun? Do you want people who inspire you? This is your opportunity to create your own tribe and/or to grow a community that’s close to your heart.
However it’s important to remember that Pluto can negate what it touches so you may find that you’re saying goodbye to a set of friends or a group, club or society in which you’ve been deeply involved. A close friend may be moving away or you may be coming to terms with losing someone dear to you in recent years.
With Pluto it’s as important to acknowledge the letting go process and to ensure that you come to terms with the past before you move on. Same goes if there are friends who aren’t supportive to you, especially those people who you’re constantly giving to but not receiving a great deal in return. Set some new intentions how you want to be around such people. Change your own behaviour if necessary and be a positive role model.
Having more fun should be high on your list of New Year resolutions with Jupiter, your ruling planet, currently in your fellow water sign of Cancer. In your chart, this represents the house of entertainment, creativity, children and love affairs. Jupiter’s expansive nature means that this is prime time to explore these areas fully and do more of what you want. More sex, getting pregnant, expressing an artistic talent; whatever your goal, be clear about what’s important to you and what you want more of in 2014.
If money’s an issue and holding you back this is also a powerful month to look closely at your financial situation and to see where you can make changes that benefit you. Mars, the action planet, is currently in Libra and the part of your chart that rules joint finances. With Mars moving full steam ahead, ask for a loan if you need one or look at other ways of juggling your cash so you can invest in you.
Mars is urging you to be more assertive with money matters and to do the one thing that will make the biggest difference. Do you need to handle money differently with your children or a lover? Where in your life do you overspend or not allow yourself any extravagance? There may be clues about what needs to change for you personally on or around the 8th when Mars clashes with your ruler Jupiter.
Another important date is the 31st when Jupiter is opposed by Pluto cutting across the Cancer-Capricorn axis of your horoscope urging you to rethink your philosophy on life. Do you live for the moment or plan for the future? Are you ready to do things differently? What takes place on or around the 31st is the equivalent of a revelation and a turning point for you.
This is also a key date in the month for love as Venus, the planet of relating, is retrograde i.e. on go slow throughout January but turns direct in Capricorn on the 31st. Love and friendship are linked with Venus in this sector of your chart so there may be a revelation from or towards a friend as love blossoms.
It’s also a powerful date for those of you who are in a relationship or married and are making an important decision regarding your life together. There may be compromises that need to be made and you may be acutely aware that you can’t have everything: saying ‘yes’ to one thing means that you automatically say ‘no’ to something else.
If in doubt, listen to your intuition and some quiet time will benefit you anyway from mid-month onwards. The personal planets, Mercury and the Sun, enter Aquarius on the 11th and 20th respectively slowing down the pace of life and urging you to pay attention to your inner thoughts. Confidences and/or secrets can emerge at this time especially with regard to love and money and you yourself may find that you want to keep certain matters to yourself and hidden.
Take your time as the month progresses and don’t be rushed into anything. It’s your life and getting things right at the start of a New Year will determine how successful and happy you’re going to be throughout the rest of 2014.
