New Moon Cancer: Women’s Rights

New Moon Cancer, women's rights

New Moon [7 Cancer 23]

– Wednesday 29 June (03:52 GMT+1)

During a New Moon, the Sun and Moon sit side by side and during a Cancer New Moon, the Moon is strong in her sign of dignity.

The Moon is the significator for women and the mother in astrology and Cancer is the nurturing, maternal sign. This is a fertile New Moon ripe with potential.

Cancer is the star sign that pulls you back to your roots and draws your attention to your home and your family. You seek out comfort, somewhere to nest so you feel safe and secure.

Wherever the New Moon falls in your horoscope, this is where you may feel the urge to retreat, to be in your comfort zone, to make everything nice and cosy.

The New Moon in Cancer is the perfect time to set your intentions for the coming month, especially in the areas of home, family, your past and where you come from.

A New Moon initiates a new cycle and is prime time to start afresh, to organise family events, to focus on your home and anything else that gives you comfort in your life. Yet, this is no ordinary or straightforward New Moon in Cancer. Here’s why:

Sun square Jupiter

Jupiter is the planet that makes the closest aspect to the New Moon. This is a mirror of what happened during the Solstice. On June 21st, the day of the Solstice, the Sun in Cancer was square to a Moon/Jupiter conjunction in Aries.

This week, the Sun & Moon in Cancer are square to Jupiter in Aries on the day of the New Moon, June 29th. Jupiter expands what it touches and the Sun offers light and illumination. Together, Sun-Jupiter aspects can be hedonistic, enthusiastic and energetic.

Yes, a square aspect means that you can go over-the-top or plans are overblown and unrealistic. Yet, it’s an excitable combination with a feel-good vibe.

Here in the UK, however, we’re gearing up for a summer of strikes. This seems to be one way that Jupiter’s move through Aries is playing out, especially as activist Mars has been emphasising the Aries vibe. Mars remains in Aries until July 5th.

Aries is the star sign that’s linked to the individual and Aries is a star sign that’s keen to protest and stand up for what’s right.

USA Abortion Ban

There is obviously another major issue linking into this powerful New Moon as Cancer is the star sign that rules the womb. Therefore, this is a powerful New Moon for women to come together to oppose the draconic laws laid down last week by the Supreme Court in the USA, as many states in the USA ban abortion.

Jupiter in Aries square to the New Moon can be seen as an uprising. It’s huge (Jupiter) rage (Aries) as a woman’s right to choose what happens to her body, her womb (Moon Cancer) is taken away from her. I know so many of us – women & men – feel complete outrage at this decision which was effectively made by 6 people deciding the fate of millions of women.

The New Moon in Cancer square to Jupiter in Aries is urging us to fight back, to use our anger and outrage to good effect, to protest, to come together.

Venus-Jupiter

This is confirmed because on the same day as the New Moon, there’s a Venus-Jupiter sextile aspect. Venus rules women in astrology and is currently in Gemini, the sign of communication.

The Venus-Jupiter connection is a symbol of togetherness, sharing ideas, passing on the names of the organisations & initiatives working to support women and their right to abortion. It’s a signature for keeping the lines of communication open and coming together to try to put right this wrong.

Roe vs Wade

I wrote about the wider astrological significance, the backdrop to these painful events in our world in a previous weekly newsletter in early May when the possible overturning of the Roe v. Wade bill first came to light.

It can be helpful to see the resonance between astrology & real-life events to confirm that the movement of the planets mirrors life on earth. Then, astrology can act as a concrete guide to know what to do and when best to take action:

Out in the world, one of the headline events this week has been the leaking of the possible/probable? overturning of the Roe vs Wade bill in the States.

It became public on May 2nd, the day that Venus moved into Aries. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, Venus in Aries is warrior woman and there’s been an uprising of rage from women in particular.

From an astrological perspective, this is also linked to the current eclipse cycle that’s kicking in this month. Taurus rules the body and the Taurus/Scorpio axis of the zodiac is linked to fertility and sex, also ownership and control.

I’ve talked previously about Uranus’ move through Taurus being about bodily autonomy – ‘my body, my choice’. We’ve seen it play out regarding the vaccines and here’s another showing.

The Solar Eclipse on April 30th was conjunct Uranus in Taurus. The Sun-Uranus aspect was at its most intense on May 5th.

As this eclipse cycle will run until October 2023, these painful and controversial issues aren’t going away. The eclipse cycle kicks in once again later this year in October/November 2022

As the influence of eclipses remains active for a few months afterwards, this doesn’t spell good news for what’s happening in the States and around the world.

The Venus in Aries protests must continue leading the way for Jupiter’s move into Aries. Everyone of us must have our individual rights kept intact.

On the day of the announcement in the Supreme Court, June 24th, the Moon (women) in Taurus (the body) was moving towards an exact conjunction with Uranus picking up the themes that were evident seven weeks ago.

As mentioned previously, the Moon rules women & the womb; Uranus splits off, dissociates, takes away – a brutal showing of the knock-on effects and massive implications for so many women as their rights are ripped from them.

Lilith’s Role

There is one other important factor to note about this week’s New Moon in Cancer, the role of Lilith. Lilith is a significant asteroid in astrology, often named Black Moon Lilith. On the day of the New Moon, Lilith sits at 8° Cancer. next to the Sun & Moon at 7° Cancer – a tight conjunction.

It’s not difficult to see the significance of Lilith here when she’s often termed a ‘she-demon’. She was Adam’s first wife who was banished from the Garden of Eden for refusing to be subservient. It’s time for this patriarchal dominance in our society to stop and for women to be granted equality and handed back their human rights.

Use this week’s New Moon in Cancer conjunct Lilith and square to Jupiter in Aries to harness your power and energy as a force for good & a catalyst for change.

Thank you for speaking out on this Sally. We are in some dark times these days. Everyone should be treated equally and individuals legally should make their own choices and govern their own autonomy.

The New Moon symbolism is really powerful for what’s happening in the US so couldn’t not – so important in these days to speak out. If I were in the States, I’d be joining in with the protests for sure. That’s the power of Aries.
