Jupiter Enters Scorpio: Deep Water Diving

Jupiter Scorpio, deep water

Big planet Jupiter is on the move today, October 10, 2017 as it leaves behind the air sign, Libra and enters the water sign, Scorpio, where it remains until November 8, 2018.

Jupiter entered Libra in September 2016 and promised a lot, as Libra is the sign of equality, balance, relationships, style and beauty. However, Jupiter also had to encounter the outer-planet duo, Uranus and Pluto, and if anything, it seems to have been a year of imbalance and clashes rather than harmony.

Jupiter Enters Scorpio

Jupiter’s move into a new sign is always a big deal because Jupiter is the best planet in astrology, i.e. it’s associated with opportunity, good fortune, expansion and growth.

Scorpio is the sign that rules all things taboo, the dark side of life, such as sex, big money, death & rebirth. It’s the sign most closely associated with power, the psyche and self-transformation.

Will this be a positive transit for Jupiter as it dives deep into the waters of Scorpio? Let’s explore.

Firstly, Jupiter expands what it touches. In addition, Jupiter has a protective influence, and is linked to joy, through the word ‘jovial’, i.e. derived from the god Jove, Jupiter’s other name.

Secondly, Scorpio often gets a bad press because it represents taboo issues and all things hidden. Scorpio is the sign of fixed (mode) water (element), and even the phrase ‘deep water’ has connotations of getting into trouble. Scorpio is, however, the sign of transformation and regeneration. As a Scorpio myself, I’m hoping this transit will be powerful.

The Joy Of Sex
Published in 1972, The Joy Of Sex was a classic. It may have been written when Jupiter was in Scorpio (Dec 1969-Jan 1971)

For example, I posted an article on Facebook this week stating that next year will be the most sex-positive Oscars ever, because all the front-runners have sex as their theme. The last line in the article was most telling, as it said that in the case of the movies mentioned,”sex itself is a source of comfort and joy and strength”.

The words comfort, joy and strength can all be attributed to the positive nature of Jupiter, and Jupiter’s move into Scorpio may well be inspiring, revealing and incredibly passionate.

This present-day article is already highlighting that there is the potential to enjoy Scorpio themes and to embrace them fully.

It really depends whether you fear delving into the dark or whether you are willing to go deep to discover what hidden reaches may lie beneath the surface of life.

Jupiter Conjunctions

Note the following dates which could help reveal more about what this Jupiter transit means for you. These are the dates when Jupiter connects with the personal faster- moving planets. They are:

  • October 18, 2017: Mercury (communication/mind) conjunct Jupiter (1 degree Scorpio)
  • October 26, 2017: Sun (self/vitality) conjunct Jupiter (3 degrees Scorpio)
  • November 13, 2017: Venus (love/money) conjunct Jupiter (7 degrees Scorpio)
  • January 7, 2018: Mars (action/passion) conjunct Jupiter (18 degrees Scorpio)

The personal planet conjunctions to Jupiter take place usually once a year, and the Sun/Jupiter conjunction in particular is often considered one of the luckiest dates of the year. Will they bring you Jupiter’s bounty?

Jupiter Aspects

In addition, Jupiter in Scorpio makes only positive planetary aspects to the outer planets in 2017/2018, which is very different from last year’s transit when Jupiter was in Libra. Here are those dates for you:

  • Jupiter trine Neptune: December 3, 2017 – May 25, 2018 – August 19, 2018
  • Jupiter sextile Pluto: January 16, 2018 – April 14, 2018 – September 12, 2018

Jupiter/Neptune

Jupiter and Neptune together signal a return to the emotional realm as these two big planets connect in the water signs, Scorpio and Pisces. At its best, this is boundless compassion and a deep level of caring, kindness and goodwill. Charitable concerns and fund-raising events could take off big-time.

Go deep sea diving and lose yourself in the realm of the imagination. Use this divine planetary influence to tap into your creative source through art, poetry, music, play and your spiritual source through prayer, meditation, connection. Take a swim in the ocean of life and make room for everyone.

Jupiter/Pluto

Pluto is co-ruler of Scorpio, so when Jupiter and Pluto get together, this is a double dose of Scorpio energy. At its best, this combination has the potential to be transformational and change lives. Scorpio is the sign of regeneration so expect new developments in recycling and turning what’s old into something new.

Money is Scorpio’s domain and Jupiter and Pluto together signify hidden riches. This may highlight issues around money and the world’s wealth. Whether this favours the distribution of wealth, or amassing wealth for personal gain remains to be seen.

Psychology, therapy, healing and psychic skills are all ruled by Scorpio and its link to the subconscious and Jupiter and Pluto together will expand these areas of life.

It’s how power is used that is the key to understanding Scorpio. You can take a journey into the underworld for transformational purposes or you can be lead astray by corruption and the darkness in life.

Jupiter In Scorpio

Here are the dates for the last four Jupiter in Scorpio transits. Think back to what these years brought you and what issues were highlighted. The Jupiter in Scorpio transit takes place approximately once every 12 years:

  • October 2005 – November 2006
  • November 1993 – December 1994
  • November 1981 – December 1982
  • December 1969 – January 1971

In the meantime, I’m off to practise my deep sea diving!

  1. Interesting I am trying to remember what happened in that year. I remember I had a significant short relationship (a few months) in January 2005 that was very intense and when I broke up with him it made me think about what I wanted to do with my life and I decided to go travelling to volunteer with children (it was opposite my moon) and the travelling took place when Jupiter was in Sag. So in order to do the travelling I remember having to sort out all my finances that year when it was in Scorpio. Those are the main things I can remember. 1993 was difficult..my mum was diagnosed with cancer but then I had Pluto opposite my Moon. Interesting it came back when Saturn in Scorpio was opposite my Moon, she is doing well now though.

    1. The money – travel connection is great for Jupiter moving through Scorpio, then Sagittarius. Make a plan, save for something special? Glad to hear your Mum is doing well. Sending best wishes, Sally

      1. Yes it is interesting. Although I am a different stage of my life now so don’t think I will be travelling long term when it next moves into Sag. I am hoping for an authentic intimate relationship and also perhaps to acquire a property (in my 2nd house) (i’ve been saving for the last few years).

    Dear Sally,

Thank you very much for this very informative topic.. It is a very deep soul satisfying reading. Loved it!
More power to you and your informative work. Keep up the good work!

  3. Hi
    Thank you Sally.
I am getting a lot of help from Domestic violence counseling services and from friends. Planning the escape with children. My DSC IN 21 Scorpio. I have Juno at 1 scorpio as well. I am looking for rental. Hope all works well. It will not be an amicable one.

He has Neptune in Scorpio 26 degree. He is a Sagittarius with sun conjunct mercury, tried to bend the truth and blame it all on me. His Pluto in Virgo aspects his neptune exact. Which fuelled his Gambling addiction?

    Hope our separation goes well.
    Thanks

  4. Sally, thanks a lot for the informative article.
I study it and try to understand if I am going to get any better in my earnings. Sun in Aries in the 4th house & Moon in Sagittarius in the 12th house, Ascendant in Capricorn.
Mercury in Aries in the 4th house
Venus(Rx) in Aries in the 4th house,
Mars in Sagittarius in the 12th house
Jupiter(Rx) in Virgo in the 9th house,
Saturn in Aries in the 4th house
Uranus(Rx) in Libra in the 10th house,
Neptune(Rx)in Scorpio in the 11th house
Pluto(Rx) in Virgo in the 9th house.

I do not have any planets in my 2nd or 8th house. Does it mean my I am not going to get any better in my finance with Jupiter travling in Scorpio. What about any property investment, I had done earlier in life? I have difficult life for finance, jobless since more than 3 years and though started working a labor job since august, I do not see any growth potential. Higly educated, worked in US government jobs earlier, but after trying my level best, I am landing nowhere. Is this Jupiter cyle not going to help me?

Earlier Jupiter cycle of Oct 2005 had helped me to land a good government job.
Thank you for your time and kind regards.

    1. Trust the Jupiter cycle – it worked well last time so it’s a similar chapter for you. As a Sun Aries, this is a strong transit for you when it comes to money and joint finances. Good luck!

  5. Hi Sally,

thanks for your detailed Jupiter article. May I ask if your presented effects on star signs include the sign we are having our Ascendant in a similiar strong way?

Thank you very much for your info!

    Kind regards,
    Patrick
