Capricorn (22 December-19 January)

It’s a powerful start to the New Year for you with a New Moon in your sign of Capricorn falling on New Year’s Day. Traditionally this is the time to make New Year resolutions and this year you have more chance than ever to finish what you start.

This is no ordinary New Moon either as it doesn’t only include the Sun and Moon together in your sign but Mercury (communication) and Pluto (loss/power) are in the line up as well. This feels dramatic and intense so be careful what you wish for or what you promise to do.

Pluto brings a sense of finality to any proceeding so this feels like a ‘commit or quit’ moment and the following quote resonates with this New Moon energy: “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it”.

However, when Pluto’s involved you, you often have to experience a loss or let go of something (or someone) before you can start afresh. Pluto’s currently at 11 degrees of Capricorn so this may feel especially potent if your birthday falls on the 1st or 2nd of January.

Bear this in mind as a new year begins as one way or another you can create some powerful intentions. When planets are in your 1st house, this puts the spotlight on your personal goals but also your appearance and your image.

If you’re a typical Capricorn work will be important to you and to some extent may even define who you are. This is a particularly ambitious start to the year for you and some of you will be going from strength to strength in your chosen profession. This is because Mars, the action planet, is currently at the top of your chart in the sign of Libra and moving steadily forward.

Mars adds energy and drive to your working life so whether you’re going for a promotion, promoting your own business or looking for work, this is potentially a successful period for you. With so many planets stacked in your sign of Capricorn as the year begins, show your true personality at work as who you are is as important as what you do in defining your success.

There may be challenges now with regard to love or key one-on-one relationships and I suspect this has a lot to do with your work situation, whether you’re overly busy or you’re currently unemployed. The planets are stacked in your personal and work sectors and where the energy is, this is where you follow. Venus, planet of love, wants to be noticed in your sign of Capricorn but she’s currently retrograde, i.e. on go slow until the last day of the month.

So love is on pause for now whether this means you and your other half are living apart or separated due to work or one of you is unsure of your feelings and not ready to commit to love. You may be single but not want to be on your own or perhaps there’s someone you’re in love with who’s unavailable. Whatever your personal relationship situation, Venus is asking you to be patient throughout January.

If you’re in a relationship or married, there may be clashes at times depending on your work schedule or your different viewpoints on what’s important. Mars squares up to Jupiter in Cancer and your relationship sector on the 8th and then there’s a powerful Full Moon cutting across the Cancer-Capricorn axis of your chart on the 16th.

Emotions are heightened at this time, it feels passionate but love is not without it’s challenges. On the 16th Venus and Mars, the relationship planets, are also at odds so be ready to defend yourself or be aware that a relationship could hit a rocky patch. At least it gives you a chance to air your opinions and also an opportunity to kiss and make up.

It’s the last day of the month that is a huge turning point for love when Venus turns direct in Capricorn and there’s a Jupiter-Pluto opposition cutting across the heavens. Together Jupiter and Pluto unearth hidden treasures and bring what’s buried or dead into the light.

It’s hard to say whether you’ll want to commit or quit (that of course depends on your personal situation) but you will know your own mind and you will know where you stand when it comes to love. For some of you, the events that take place on or around the 31st will transform your love life. Break free from a relationship that’s based on control and raise love up to a new level that brings a deeper level of fulfilment.

Finally this month, pay attention to money matters from mid-month onwards as Mercury enters Aquarius and your cash sector on the 11th followed by the Sun on the 20th. You may be making changes at home or want to invest in property or help out your family.

If you’re in need of cash, think about renting out a room or ask your family to help. The 17th and 29th bring good news or pleasant surprises on the home and money front. Plus the second New Moon of the month takes place on the 30th and a New Moon in Aquarius promises a little bit of luck when it comes to cash.
