As April begins both the Sun and the communication planet Mercury are in Aries, the sign which rules your home and family, your past and where you come from.

Aries is a speedy sign and in the first half of the month, there’s a chance to make swift progress in the areas mentioned.

This is because of a lively New Moon in Aries which takes place on the 7th. New Moons are a symbol of new beginnings and the chance to make a fresh start.

This is an important new moon for you because it comes on the back of the lunar eclipse on March 23rd which cut across the Aries/Libra axis of your chart.

Any changes which have taken place with regard to work and home, vocation and family can now be sorted out as a fresh wave of energy and action whizzes in.

These areas of your life, home and family and your links to the past, are where change is imminent and at times, this might feel unsettling, rootless. This has a lot to do with the fact that the planet of change, Uranus, is also in Aries and on the 9th, the Sun and Uranus meet in the heavens.

Often when Uranus is involved, you’re splitting away or breaking off from the past or a settled situation. You have to do things differently whether people move on or there are changes to the place you live. Uranus advocates a need to move quickly, be impulsive, take a risk.

If you’re looking for somewhere new to live, the weekend of the 9th/10th looks promising to find somewhere, to take advantage of sudden changes. Same goes if you’ve been meaning to take a trip down memory lane or catch up with family or friends from your past. Be spontaneous and say Yes to a last minute invitation.

When Uranus is involved, you also have to let go of control as events happen which are unpredictable or unexpected. Be willing, be flexible and go with the flow.

Another planet enters Aries on the 5th and this is Venus, the planet of relating. If you’re looking for love, this suggests a childhood sweetheart, someone from your past. There might be a twist of fate, a lucky coincidence and you bump into someone or hear from someone you used to know. The 12th and 18th stand out in this respect.

If you’re in a relationship or married, home is where the heart is and when you create a happy home together, love can flourish. There might be a new addition to your home this month, a baby, a step family, a pet, a major purchase. Be open to other people and let love in.

For some years now, you may have been battling against the past or a tricky home or family situation. If this is true for you, strong emotions could resurface this month, most likely around the 19th-22nd. As you change on a personal level, this has a knock-on effect with the ones you love and the only way this can work is to meet in the middle.

Play rather than work dominates now and it’s when you focus on the fun side of life and the activities which bring you joy that things begin to fall into place. It doesn’t mean that work’s not important to you but it does mean that you need to ensure you have a healthy work/life balance. Work to live rather than live to work.

Communication planet Mercury enters Taurus and your fellow earth sign on the 5th and this flags up all the good things in life. This is a creative and fertile sector of your chart which rules love affairs, children and pregnancy, creative projects and entertainment. Line up some fun things to look forward to and make the most of your spare time.

The period from the 14th-17th is especially fertile and productive when there’s a triangle of planets in earth signs. This is about creating strong foundations in your life, working towards your long-term goals, saying Yes to an adventure, a life-changing experience. This is where satisfaction lies and it’s what gives you faith especially if you’re currently dealing with more difficult issues.

Mid-month feels intense as two key planets turn retrograde. The first is Mars, the planet of action and energy, which switches direction on the 18th in Sagittarius and the most hidden sector of your chart. Mars will remain on go slow for 10 weeks and this turns your attention inward.

Personal issues might become urgent, secrets or confidences could prove challenging and a slower pace is recommended. Don’t take on too much whilst Mars is on go slow and ensure you complete an important project before you begin anything new.

The other planet turning around in the heavens is Pluto, the planet of transformation and loss, in your sign of Capricorn. This will be felt most strongly if your birthday falls between 7th-9th January. Personal development work can facilitate this key event and working with change instead of trying to avoid whatever’s going on for your personally. Finally, Mercury also turns retrograde on the 28th so it’s best to line up any important activities before this date. After the 28th you have another reason to kick back, indulge and take life at a slower pace.
